The Beef Chow Fun was really good and the only item I would reorder. The Black Pepper Chicken Feet were bland and served warm. The XO Eggplant was disappointing because it was mostly breading and slightly bitter. We ordered Salt and Pepper Fish, but they mistakenly brought the Fish Fillet Special with White Sauce instead. It was just okay. On a positive note, the food came out quickly, and the staff was patient as we took our time browsing the menu. Unfortunately, with so few Cantonese restaurants in KC, I’ll likely have to return to try other dishes.

First time ordering from them. We just got Togo food (chicken lo mein, hunan shrimp, crab rangoon and egg drop soup). Everything was great, maybe 3 stars on the fried rice but not enough to take away from the main dish. Will definitely go back! Fun small seating area will try that next time!

This Chinese new year we had a little get-together at Hong Kong Star Chinese Restaurant for our New Year dinner. The restaurant specializes in Cantonese-style Chinese cuisine, my favorite type of Chinese food.

The dinner was an amazing experience, thanks to the fantastic company. The restaurant is especially renowned for its clay pot dishes, which we ordered – a beef brisket and tendon clay pot and a tofu pot. Both were simply delicious! We also had the tender, juicy roast duck, accompanied with the restaurant’s special house dip. The Cantonese style crispy fried chicken was pre-ordered, requiring 30 minutes preparation, but it was certainly worth the wait: the meat was succulent, flavorful and perfectly caramelized with a crispy skin. Moreover, the black pepper beef really stood out – coated with a well balanced black pepper sauce and stir fried to perfection, the meat was unbelievably tender and flavorful.

A steamed whole flounder is a must-have for a New Year’s Day dinner as it symbolizes well-being and prosperity. It’s delicately prepared with classic Cantonese-style soy sauce and ginger. We also enjoyed a rich and delicious spread of braised duck with mixed vegetables, crab and fish maw soup, steamed and pan-fried dumplings, walnut shrimp, Peking ribs, ginger and scallion-steamed chicken, stir-fried bok choy, fried rice, and stir-fried rice noodles.

We had an amazing evening together and look forward to a great year ahead!

Holy. Mother. Of. God. We moved to Missouri a few years ago from San Diego and I was truly bummed at the lack of decent Chinese restaurants.
We live at the Lake of the Ozarks and came up here for work. When we saw all the great reviews, I seriously thought it was just too good to be true …not so, the food was legit AF.
~Salt and Pepper Shrimp, (more like prawns!!) deep fried and lucious. A+
~Sliced beef w/Chinese veggies on a bed of crispy noodles. Tender and perfectly cooked. A+++
~Peking pork, deep fried w/a semi sweet sauce and onions. It was delicious but fried too hard for my husband to eat. More for me!
~Salty fish and chicken fried rice. AMAZING. If you like rice and different things added to it, THIS might be something for you to try. The ratio of salty fish (tiny pieces) to rice and chicken was perfect!
Our server was very nice, friendly and efficient, unlike the woman at the register who was just sour and unfriendly.
The staff wore masks and the place was spotless and overall, our meal was awesome!! I hope we can come back one day.

A total Gem! Me and 2 friends came and ordered the Beef Chow Fun, Salt and Pepper spare rib, and crispy pan fried noodle with chicken. As well as Egg rolls. It was all so delicious the salt and pepper spare rib was so flavorful, and fried to perfection, it was so delicious and I usually stray from pork! The beef chow fun was so tender, caramelized to perfection, I was surprised I was eating beef with how it melted in my mouth. And the crispy noodle with chicken was delicious, it may not be for everyone bit with the vegetables and sauce it is such a good burst of flavor with each bite.

As a Cantonese Chinese, I’ll say this is the best Cantonese restaurant in the greater KCK area. If you want to try some authentic Cantonese cuisines, order from the menus with Chinese. Flavor wise, it’s about 70~80% similar to the restaurants in Canton province.

I ordered takeout from this place and it was amazing. Everything tasted great, but my favorite was the walnut shrimp and crab Rangoon. I definitely want to go back and order more next time. I would highly recommend if you’re craving for authentic Chinese food.

Stopped on way back to Kansas on Christmas cause Chinese restaurants are always open on Christmas.
Amazing. First time in a long time had real Orange Chicken the way it’s supposed to be. Orange peals and all. Absolutely fantastic food.

The food was amazing and authentic Cantonese. They have multiple tables with lazy Suzann to make sharing amongst a group easy and fun. Our group ordered several meals and we definitely wanted to try it all.

Truly middle of the road, neither bad nor good. I got crab rangoons and shrimp fried rice (xtra shrimp) and my bill was $40. While there was the perfect amount of shrimp there was no flavor and I received multiple rangoons with no filling. That is truly wild.
