This is a treasure and let me tell you why. It used to be that many Chinese restaurants that opened before the 1970s not only had the restaurant but also a full bar depending on the size of the property. The Kuo Wah, a legendary Hong Kong style had a full bar and a nightclub on Grant Street in San Francisco. I think the bar is still there. Anyway, some history to look up.
So it was a very wonderful nostalgic surprise to see this restaurant’s interior which harkens back quite a few decades and it’s full bar on the side. The bar is not big enough sitting and drinking, that’s for your restaurant table. The menu is pretty expansive and We noted that lunch time had a lot of combination plates in a $12 to $13 range. The tea is nice and hot, and we chose just a basic meal. Broccoli chicken, bok choy with garlic, and white rice..
Broccoli chicken was good. I probably could have eaten a lot more in my younger days. The bok choy, however, was a wonderful surprise because it wasn’t stringy and chewy, which is what you end up with a lot of the time. My bites crunched through, not chewy, and it was also delicious. Lot of classic dishes in the menu and I think over the the next couple of years I will make my way through them once in awhile. We don’t go out much but definitely we will return.
Another thing of note, I did not see any chopsticks. I think it’s an all forks restaurant. That’s fine because they serve incredibly varied community at that location.
I think next time I may try their Hong Kong noodles or their chow fun.

Vegetable fried rice, bean curd beef and snow pea chicken….Yum!! Bean curd beef flavorful and the beef is tender
Snow pea chicken also good. Snow peas are string free
In fact when we walked in one of the employees was destringing a large batch of snow peas Friday night not crowded. Guess lots of people gone for the weekend.

Beef chow fen: not enough wok hay, noodle stuck together, not a lot of beef slices. Note this is $19
Salt and pepper chicken wings: decent crisp but holy so salty.

Family favorite! My parents have been coming to Hong Kong Restaurant in Union City for years. Authentic Chinese cuisine, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. Consistently delicious!
We always order the hot and sour soup, clay pot, salt and pepper ribs and the sweet and sour fish.
Highly recommend!

I tried this restaurant a couple of times, and after tasting the shrimp with coconut and walnuts, I found it to be incredibly delicious. I can’t believe I finished the whole plate! I heard this dish is one of the favorites, and it definitely did not disappoint me. It’s a great family-owned restaurant with a homemade feel.

The food is good: however the waiter is obnoxious. Constantly interrupting our conversation. I might go back when the waiter shuts up. Plus, the prices have gone up substantially.

I ordered chicken and I got noodle.
No flavoring with no onions, no flavoring asked for extra bean sprouts. They weren’t there, so got noodles for 14 bucks.
Do not go there at all. I called back and told them it was terrible. They said sorry didn’t offer to remake it or anything.
Now I have to go buy me dinneregina all over again.

The business was quiet in Friday night. There were only 3 tables. Staffs like to talk to customers. We were just want to enjoy our food but they kept coming to chat with us. The food was salty that I have to keep drinking tea. Most suck thing was one of the staff like to talk about politics that she complained about US government and keep saying Taiwan will be eventually united by China! How ridiculous it is. It’s my first and will be last time there.

Our family has ordered Chinese food from here for at least 20 years. It’s our favorite neighborhood Chinese food restaurant. Our favorites are the Mongolian Beef, Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, and the Hong Kong Style Pan Fried Noodles.

Me and my family have been coming here for years. But because one of the employees behavior, we will not be coming back. She is very rude. We tried to place an order and she couldn’t understand us as she doesn’t know English well. She had been rude for years and sometimes she was nice but I’ve finally had enough of her attitude. After her getting impatient with us trying to place an order, she got our order and never came back. We flagged her down twice and one time she scoffed and ignored us, the second time she waved and acted like she was going to come to our table soon and she never did. We had to ask a different waiter for the check and water. This is the first time I didn’t leave a tip at restaurant. This isn’t a one time occurrence either. She has been rude to my mother many times over the years and we are done with this place. You’ll know who she is if you get her as your server.
