My husband and I visited today after church and there was no wait for a table. Our server, Spencer, was at our table in less than a minute. He was most pleasant and friendly. While waiting for our meals to arrive, my visit to the restroom was very pleasing. I am a stickler for a clean restroom. Once our food arrived, the presentation was appealing and everything tasted great. My pancakes were SUPER fluffy but, were a little bland (nothing that syrup couldn’t fix). Other than that, we truly enjoyed everything and Spencer’s service! We’ll be back Hometown Diner.

Came for lunch for the first time and it was great! Dayja was our server and she was delightful and helpful. I had the club sandwich and my buddy had a catfish. We both enjoyed our meal very much. Will definitely stop by again next time I’m in Portsmouth.

Just had the weirdest experience. In ordered the pulled pork sandwich, but when it came out it looked like slop (1st photo). I expressed my concern and stated I didn’t want to make it a big deal but that it doesn’t look great. The waitress (who was very nice) reassured me that she could get me something else, so I asked for a burger instead. Then texted my wife a photo to make sure I wasn’t imagining it (2nd photo).
A short time later another lady, apparently the owner, came to my table and inquired about my meal. I again expressed that I didn’t want it to be a big deal, but that it didn’t look like pulled pork sandwiches that I’ve been eating my entire life. She then told me that there was nothing wrong with the sandwich and that I would have to pay for it and that I could order another meal at 1/2 price. I told her that I wasn’t going to pay for it because I hadn’t touched it and she told me to have a nice day.
I’m now sitting at another restaurant around the corner about to eat a pulled pork sandwich that looks delicious! (3rd photo)
All said – I won’t be back here until/unless they come under new management and I’d suggest you think twice before going.

We stopped in for breakfast because it is my boyfriend’s diner. I have never been. So many options on the menu! You can get breakfast lunch or dinner. You definitely get your money worth, servings are huge. Everything tasted great, like home cooked and made with it love. Our server was very attentive and super nice. She knew the menu well. The decor was mostly navy and water related. We loved reading the patches on the wall. The only reason I give a 4/5 and not a 5/5 is because the bathrooms are not secure. The lock doesn’t work. It also would be helpful if they had benches outside or inside for people that are waiting. The place was super busy but that’s a good thing. Look forward to trying more items on the menu

Very nice and quiet place for a quick but delicious meal. Being that it was our first time there our waitress Simone was very knowledgeable and helpful about the menu and food. The decor was average but very well lit and clean.
Based on this experience we will definitely go back and recommend eating here to our family and friends.

My family and I visited this restaurant for the first time as my brother was staying in the hospital just down the street for surgery. Overall, the experience was incredibly average. The food while in a solid abundance for the price was not particularly flavorful but was not bad either. Likely to cater to the at least from my experience elderly clientele, I’d imagine things aren’t seasoned too heavily to keep complaints low. In any case, the fried chicken that I personally ordered was decent. The crispness was present but ultimately lacked any seasoning other than likely just salt and pepper. Thankfully there was hot sauce on the table to rectify this. In addition, the service was a bit slow. Our waitress came to our table a whopping three times during our entire visit. Granted, the place was busy it still should be appreciated if the wait staff actually came and checked on things such as drinks during the meal instead of immediately afterwards while you are paying. My final criticism comes from the size of the booth tables. It’s just not comfortable in any way for four people to sit at. Personally, I’d probably not return just because it was just an overwhelmingly average experience

I dont care how good the food might be im big on great customer service and from what I saw this morning they just dont have it! This was my first time attempting to eat here but upon walk-in about 2 tables were dirty which one of those tables I wanted to sit at. There was a towel on the table which did indicate it was dirty. I didnt mind which I proceeded to wipe the table myself because this was where I felt comfortable sitting. The brown skinned young lady working in the dining room told myself and my man to sit somewhere else. I am a server and I would never tell a customer to sit somewhere else. I would ask them to give me just a minute to clean the table or section. Right after not even a minute later another customer proceeded to sit in the same spot and again the server told them to go and sit somewhere else. I have been in customer service over 10 years and I have never. I just thought that it was rude and inconsiderate to tell a customer to sit somewhere else. She seemed very annoyed that ppl kept trying to sit at these tables with rags. Seems like both tables where common areas and for me instead of cleaning other tables those would be the first I would clean especially to keep my customers happy.
