Homestyle Desserts had it’s origins in the Village of Buchanan, where in 1970 Rose began making apple dumplings in a coal oven at the bake shop called Dutch Mill Donuts. My family and I have ordered cakes from Homestyle for over 10 years. Today, I picked up a cake I ordered for my fathers birthday at the Cold Spring location since it was closer to my home. I have never been so disappointed and disgusted with the service received. The workers at this location are known junkies and have disgusting attitudes. They’d prefer to sit behind the counter talking then helping customers inside. There was one young guy who was very sweet and tried his best to add some type of decor toppers. The cake writing looks horrible, no flowers or boarder design, and there’s a random line at the side of the cake. I have NEVER received a cake from them of this quality. Actually, back in February 2020, I ordered a cake and it completely slid 5 min after leaving because it wasn’t cold and it was too tall. Ever since the pandemic hit, they lost some of their best workers and hired ones that have no idea what they’re doing. I will not be ordering from homestyle again. It WAS the best bakery upstate once upon a time.

I ordered a pastry, a very small cookie and a large latte. Two young girls were behind the counter. When the drink came, I told them the cup was half full. The girl said, “Oh yes, we are out of milk.” Then “Why did you sell me a large?, ” I asked. The two girls looked at me with blank expressions. Finally, she offered me a dollar back as if to charge for a small. When I looked at the recept, they charged, $6 for a single very small cookie. We won’t be going back.

I wanted to like this new location so bad but one time I went to get 1lb of cookies they charged me $32. The cookies were good but I thought that was a lot. Today my wife went to get some pastries but they ran out. I’m sorry but how do you run out on a Sunday. She got a couple danishes to bring home. They were rock hard. Couldn’t even eat them. Maybe they are not putting in enough effort at this location I don’t know. The worst part is my wife and I worked at the one in Peekskill 20 years ago.

I came here just to get a quick dessert. I got a black and white cookie and I was not impressed. It tasted dry and flavorless. I hate that this bakery only has a limited selection of stuff and the person who helped us wasn’t too friendly. I will not come back here!

Five stars, they gave my son free cookies and their baked goods are solid. I usually get sfogliatelle when I go there, and they are lovely. The place is kind of tucked away, but it’s next to an ice cream shop and a pizza place, so worth a visit to the little strip.

I was told about the Peekskill location & ended up being by the Cold Spring location so I stopped by. It was clean & the lady was nice at the counter but the pastries were old and hard as as a rock. I spent $14 and some change. My kids liked their pretzels but just so disappointed by the pastries. The croissant crumbled completely and also tasted freezer burnt.
