Do you know what a hogshead is? Neither did Alexis and John, co-owners of HogsHead Kitchen and Wine Bar, until August of 2012. They didn’t even know they wanted to open a restaurant together until then, either. So after a very long sequence of events (you’ll have to get the entire story from them as it dates back all the way to the very early ‘90s), here they are in the Lowcountry, with their very own creative concept in HogsHead Kitchen and Wine Bar.

We had a fantastic private wine tasting for our local women’s group. Beautiful elevated charcuterie display along with a nice selection of wines to sample.

The Sea Bass Special was one of the best meals I have ever had – an amazingly complex combination of flavors. The pimento cheese burger and fresh cut fries were also out of this world. These people care about what they do. Nice pour on drinks with a gentleman’s cube. The service was friendly, comfortable and personable. We walked in late on our way to HHI from the Savannah airport, but they still sat us and didn’t make us feel rushed. The chef came out to say thank you. Can’t wait to return with friends. Perfect night.

Hey all, if you want to have a special meal or bring some guests out for a wonderful experience, come out to Hogshead! 4 of us had 4 different meals, and everyone was raving. Great food with amazing flavors and sauces. The escargot was a tasty starter, and we ended the evening with a shared KeyLime dessert.

First time eating southern cuisine ! What a treat! Everything was delicious and homemade. It really felt like eating at your grandmother’s house. Portions were also very generous. The service was a prime example of Southern hospitality. You won’t be disappointed! I highly recommend the meatloaf!

Wow, what a great find. We have been coming to Hilton Head for years and once on the Island, we rarely venture off, but boy I am glad we did. The experience started with a warm welcome and big smile from our hostess/owner and then our server. Started with the cool cucumber cocktail. Apps included brie with pear and prosciutto and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes looked like crab cakes and were amazing with the addition of peaches. I had the ribs with onion straws and coleslaw. Again, excellent. A very large portion led to some takeaway for lunch the next day. No room for dessert, but they sounded and looked good. If you are in HHI this place is worth the trip. Best of all the chef had an Eagles shirt on, go Birds.

A FB friend reminded me to revisit Hogs Head and we went last night. Alexis, the hostess welcomed us warmly. The food was tasty and ample, the service was efficient and the restaurant was quiet enough for a good family conversation. We won’t wait so long to visit again

We stopped in for a late dinner. The restaurant wasn’t very busy.
Our server, Hannah, was great. She was very efficient, but took the time to speak to all and get our orders correct.
The food was incredible. My meatloaf and mashed potatoes were amazing.
If we make our way back to the area, I’d love to stop in again.

First of all, I didn’t know this place existed among the many stores in this strip. And what a find! Delicious food! Great, friendly service. Even the owner Alexis came out to check on our table! We had soft shell crabs, ribs, burgers, and Brussel sprouts (yummmm!). Will be returning to this hidden gem! Would recommend!
