Hodgie’s Ice Cream at 71 Haverhill Rd in Amesbury, MA has been a family staple forever. Careful when you go to order by the number of scoops! They have HUGE servings!
I love their wide selection of tasty treats and other menu items too.
The flavor of the ice cream is very good, and the fudge and cream too, but to me it is grainy, not smooth and creamy. I wonder if it had been thawed and refrozen too many times? Not sure, but it’s definitely grainy compared to other places. It doesn’t stop me from going, but it keeps me from giving it a top score.
The hubs liked his coconut chip. You can tell by the consistent line out front that people love Hodgie’s! There is also seating out back to the left, under the trees.
Important to know, there are no public bathrooms there, so plan ahead!

Going to Hodgie’s was like a homecoming for me. I used to work down the road back in 1988 and would go to Hodgie’s with co-workers. The place hasn’t changed one iota except perhaps flowers underneath the sign. The ice cream is as delicious as ever. I had the strawberry shortcake, and they did it right using a biscuit. The workers were hard working college students who were polite and friendly. Be sure to give a tip for their collective college fund!

I’ve gone to Hodges quite a few times over my life and the ice cream and food has always been excellent. Ice cream portions are generous. I only wish that they were open year round. They’re closing October 14th for the end of their 2025 season

On vacation in Amesbury and found this place using Google Maps. It is incredible. We got the Hoddie Cup and it was just enough. If there is a flavor you want and they don’t have it, you don’t need it. I had coconut chip and my spouse had Kahlúa Chip. Both were awesome.

This is a fun place to go for local ice-cream! Many flavors to select from and addition specialty flavors of frozen yogurt, soft serve and sorbet. Portions a very generous and it can be overwhelming to try to eat a small size but really fun!!!!! A definite place to try in the Newburyport, Salisbury or Amesbury area….

Asked a server at a dubkin on our way home from Hampton beach for local ice cream & she sent us here…and we’re so happy she did. Their size to price is amazing. You get so much ice cream. Our server, was super great. He asked me right away if knew what their sizes were as I ordered a kiddie for our 9 yr old & im thankful he did, because it would have been HUGE. My boyfriend & I shared a kiddie sundae while the 9 yr got a scoop…more like 2 haha loved it. Would 1000% go back if we’re ever in the area again.

Stopped for dessert and had the most pleasant customer experience. Dominic took my order and talked to me about his time there. Very polite and friendly. I walked away feeling like I had known him for years.

This ice cream is very creamy and the flavors are pretty good. They have amazing peanut butter sauce which is rare. For some reason our small sundaes came in a quart container and contained more ice cream than we could eat (and we can eat an amazing/horrifying amount of ice cream). This is not a complaint but it was pretty surreal.

I made the mistake of not looking at the sizes before ordering, since a kiddie cup is the smallest, right? Nope! When I asked for a kiddie, they showed me a cup to demonstrate the size, and mentioned the quarter kiddie, so I accepted that instead, since a fourth of a kiddie size must be tiny, right? Ended up getting 3 massive scoops on my sugar cone. Does that mean a regular kiddie is 12 scoops?! And there’s still “small” and “large” that’s bigger than that?!! I ended up dumping two of the three scoops, which is unfortunate since the ice cream itself wasn’t too bad.
