Join us for dinner Wednesday-Monday or lunch next door at Hitching Post Wines, Wednesday-Sunday. The Hitching Post was founded by Frank and Natalie Ostini in Casmalia, California in 1952, specializing in “Santa Maria Style Barbeque,” a California ritual stemming from the culture of the Native American Chumash and the Spanish Rancheros who cooked over the heat of a fragrant red oak wood fire. Owner Frank Ostini showcases the tradition of the highest-quality Santa Maria Barbecue paired with some of the region’s best Pinot Noir wines. The Hitching Post 2 became internationally recognized with the 2004 Academy Award-winning film Sideways and has been earning praise for its food and wines for over three decades.

They have gluten free buns that actually taste good. I had the chicken sandwich. We were at the outside garden for lunch. Fries have a great spice to them. Great place to stop. Ostrich’s roaming in the distances beautiful place. Sideways vibes iylyk.

Lunch menu is not available in the restaurant which I wasn’t expecting, but other than that it was as good as advertised. Food and drinks with a view. Plenty of seating. Steak was good despite it being thin. We got checked on like 4 times which surprised me considering it was a counter order joint.

Our server Leticia was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent, steaks done to perfection and Monday night the had a special hamburger night (they are not on their menu) Had the cheeseburger and it was incredibly juicy and flavorful as it was made with their steaks, they make their buns and fries are crunchy, fried in beef fat.

We visited during a family trip to Solvang and had a reservation.

The host acknowledged us right away, and after a short wait we were seated.

Our server, Jennifer, was attentive, friendly, and very hospitable throughout the evening.

Everyone in our party ordered steaks, and they were all cooked to the correct doneness. However, the meat quality didn’t quite meet our expectations. The ribeye wasn’t as tender or on par with steakhouses like Maestro’s, Capital Grille, or Ruth’s Chris.

We came in with high expectations after seeing it featured as having the “Best Steaks in California.”

While it’s a solid, classic steakhouse experience, it didn’t quite live up to the hype for us.

The bar was packed and the atmosphere was lively, and it’s clearly a popular spot with visitors and locals alike.

Would we return? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Yes, but go in with reasonable expectations. It’s a straightforward steakhouse, nothing more, nothing less.

We came here for lunch on a road trip up the coast. We got the pulled pork sandwich, the tri tip sandwich and The pulled pork tacos. I highly recommend all three! Service was great, and the atmosphere was gorgeous and tranquil. This is a must stop!

We had a reservation at 7pm and got seated at 720pm , all good you expect delays in a place that gets a lot of attention.
I had a NY steak and the wifey had the Rack of Lamb both were delicious. Jennifer was out waitress and she was amazing.
I wanted a glass of Merlot just to stick it to Paul Giamatti for what he did to NWA in Straight outta Compton but they only sold it by the bottle. Regardless Jennifer’s attentiveness and the food eclipse that minor thought of pettiness

The food is amazing! My husband and I shared the T-bone steak. It was perfect for two. I love that they bring out the veggie tray first. Our waitress Leticia was so knowledgeable and pleasant. We are happy to have finally tried this famous BBQ spot. We will definitely be back !

My new favorite place!! It was such a great steak! I’ve never ordered a sirloin lol it was so delicious and tasty. Oh my God I cannot wait to go back here and all the people of the bar were so fun and interesting locals, visitors. The bartender was awesome I love love this place and cannot wait to go back to the Santa Ynez Valley just to eat here.
