Dropped in here for lunch despite seeing mixed reviews. Glad I did, because this is one of the best burgers and best meals I’ve had in a long time. The burger was tasty and really held up. The fries were crispy and tasted great. And maybe the best part was their banana cream pie in a cup. Everything was so good. Not sure why ratings are not higher, but I guess the moral of the story is don’t believe everything you read.

Can’t believe Pasadena finally has its own HiHo. There’s a lot of hype around this place and it’s been busy every time I’ve gone, which is already three visits in. I can see why people either love it or hate it. Yes, the burgers are on the smaller side and yeah, it’s a bit pricey for what it is, but I’ve been really enjoying it lately.

They specialize in Wagyu beef smash burgers, and so far I’ve tried the HiHo burger, which reminds me of a classic double cheeseburger with mustard, and the Big Matty, which gives Big Mac vibes. I’ve also had the chicken tenders sandwich, and it honestly reminds me of Korean fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and juicy inside.

The space itself is pretty small with limited seating. You order at the window and then find a seat, which gives it that casual walk up burger stand vibe.

What I’m really in love with are their beef tallow fries. I actually enjoy that slightly soggy crispiness and they’re super addicting.

Overall, this spot definitely hits the spot. Just be prepared for a wait because it’s pretty popping right now.

Finally checked out Hiho this weekend. Came by around noon on a Sunday. No lines for ordering. Half of seating open but not shaded. A few inside tables opened up after a few minutes. I got Hiho and hubby the Big Matty with fries.

Pros:
– quality patty, very juicy and flavorful. Was literally non stopping dripping the entire time
– I love their pickles wish I ordered extra
– grilled onions were delicious too
– tallow fries extremely crispy
– quick service. Our food came out about 12 minutes so better than I expected based on other reviews here

Cons:
– from the double wagyu patty, to tallow fries, everything is so unctuous. But half way through felt a bit heavy. Especially the fries felt overly greasy
– because Wagyu, they didn’t really flatten down the patty as much as traditional smash burger. So missing the crispy edges and smokiness I usually love
– I didn’t love the matty sauce like other reviews. Was a bit too tangy for me, just a personal preference

Overall it was a high quality burger but I couldn’t eat this more than once a month… this for sure is heavier and more of a treat than regular smash burger.

Yum!! Tasty cheeseburgers, I ordered their HiHo burger, it was quality burger and the portions are filling. I also got their banana cream pie and that’s definitely worth trying if you love banana cream pie!

• HiHo: 7.5/10 solid burger, not messy and didn’t need any additional condiments or add-on’s. It did lack that “wow” factor for me. I find other burger spots to be more superior (Amboy, Ban Ban, Heavy Handed, etc)
• Honey Chicken Tenders was yum! Loved how it was breaded and the portions were huge for the 2 tenders
• Skip the side of pickles unless you’re a fan of bread and butter pickles; I went in with the expectation that these would be dill
• Side of Matty sauce was worth the extra charge! It’s like a mesquite island dressing

Cost breakdown:
• HiHo (double cheese burger) $10.45
• Side of pickles $4.15
• Honey chicken tenders $12.55
• Fries $5.25
• Side of Matty sauce $1.75
*They’re a no-tipping establishment

Additional comments:
• Wait-time for a Friday night was ~15-minutes.
• Inside seating is placed pretty tight; you’re likely to bump into the table next to you

Huge fan of the Santa Monica location, some of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The Pasadena location was such a disappointment. The seating area was a disaster and nowhere near enough seats for just hiho, can’t imagine when matu opens. The burgers were tiny and dry, the fries taste the same but portions were much smaller than what we were used to. Hopefully they improve and become as good as Santa Monica. You can see in the picture from the plate, it was dry, when you are eating hiho burgers, it should be juicy! The plate should be covered in burger juice dripping down!!

I stopped by HIHO Cheeseburger today and ordered the HiHo, fries, and a Dr Pepper, and everything exceeded my expectations. The burger was cooked perfectly, juicy, flavorful, and you can really taste the quality of the meat. The fries were hot, crispy, and seasoned just right. My bun was lightly toasted and soft. Even the Dr Pepper tasted extra fresh.

The customer service was amazing from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. The restaurant was clean, the food came out fast, and the overall vibe was welcoming.

This was one of the best burger experiences I have had in a long time. I will definitely be back, and next time I might try a milkshake too. If you have not been to HIHO yet, you are missing out. Highly recommend! add ambience out door not a lot of seating. There is another restaurant right next to it. Lots of traffic.

Honestly, this just made me appreciate In-N-Out more. The burgers are solid, but pretty small for what you pay, and the nickel-and-diming is real—over $4 for extra pickles and an extra charge for sauce. The pickles are sweet. We spent $65 on a couple burgers, fries, a shake, and a banana cream pie. Tasty, but not worth the bill.

I ordered the cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake. The burger was delicious meaty not overly seasoned, the pickle is not quite dill and not too sweet. The fries are very good. The chocolate shake had good flavor without an overly sweet syrupy chocolate flavor. I will be back to try the other menu offerings.
