This is our new go to in Highland Village in St. Paul for lunch and breakfast food. Classic American diner food in a clean and comfortable restaurant with many booths and tables. They have daily specials on the caulk board, that always have something delicious to offer. They usually have 4 really good soup offerings. It’s nice to have a selection that isn’t just chicken noodle or tomato basil. I love the beef barley soup! We had breakfast food and was happy they offered a keto type offering, I just skipped the toast. The veggie mix is such a great alternative to hashbrowns and very nutritious. They are very accommodating and always helpful for dietary needs. The bakery case had some items that looked really good. I have to stay out for now. The food is really good, the people are nice and it’s comfortable and it’s not a chain restaurant. Support local business and you will find something here as there is an awesome selection for any meal time.

EAT ON THE STREET: the space outside in summer is really fun and its actually quieter OUTSIDE when its really busy inside. The steak perogies is a showstopper and so is the Brussel sprouts. Its a perfect friend spot to catch up and get reacquainted, they allow dogs outside and its a nice spot to have the dog with you ( well mannered of course) and hand out for a little funshine date wit your pet.

Definitely worth the 30-minute wait, would have waited an hour if we had to. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the decor, outstanding! Two words: Oatmeal Pancakes. You’ll thank me later. Great big menu, you’ll need time to deliberate from all of the wonderful choices offered. Diner like atmosphere with individual stools and a counter up front if you’re dining solo. Lots of tables and booths, but on weekends, they are going to be full and you may have to wait like we did. Definitely worth it. They will text you when the table is ready. Check out the store across the street while you wait, interesting place.

Been coming here for years- worth the 20 minute drive. Best breakfast in St Paul or the East metro for that matter. Scratch hollandaise, fresh ingredients, and everything else that makes a great restaurant.

Was really excited to eat here. Initial service and drinks were fine. Ordered Fish & Chips. Chips were excellent. DO NOT order their fish. Tasted fishy, strong. It comes frozen. They defrost the day before. Risk is soft, mushy and flavor, taste issue. Manager said he tried a piece. It was fine. My issue was personal preference. Really??? On ordered something else. In the end they of course didn’t charge the fish. But they did nothing or offered nothing else to compensate for the negative experience. Have they ever heard of trying to delight the customer. Do something to entice the customer to return. Nope. Nada. You get significantly better fish at Culvers.

My son told me to visit here and I dragged my feet about going. I’m salty now because the place is !! It’s small but cute and cozy, 8.5/10 on the atmosphere. Now my server Lex, she rocked and she had big style so that’s a 10/10 for me. The early happy hour had us feeling really excited we picked the place. The food took it to another level. We had the salmon dip as an appetizer 8/10, the salmon entrée with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts (which was enough to split with my friend) 10/10, chicken Wings 9/10 and we all had drinks. I did the Highland Mule 11/10, sangria 10/10 and the breakfast margarita 10/10. Safe to say I’ll be back and you should give it a try too!!

Delicious! The food is hearty, but light and not oily. The pesto pasta (without meat) is a great vegetarian option. It is not heavy, or creamy which is nice for lactose intolerant people.
The fish and chips are tender & fluffy. The horseradish sauce compliments the fish & bread/batter well.
Please give the chefs a raise!

I have been visiting this establishment since 2016 due to living within the area and have not really been back since moving away from the area in 2018. I made an effort in returning after all the COVID riffraff and I am happy to say that Highland Grill continues to have it together! When my partner and I used to visit back in 2016 and 2017, Kim, who was the manager during that time, was very courteous to us and would even take one plate off the bill everytime we visited! Unfortunately we do not see Kim around anymore this time returning, but it didn’t stop us from having a wonderful experience.
The food continues to be good. I have had all the entrées from years ago like Steak & Pierogies, Lemongrass Thai Chicken, Beef Stroganoff, Seared Salmon, and more. They also used to have meatloaf which I loved. However, I do not recall them having Tuna Poke Bowl from back in the days, so I tried it this time. It was definitely a healthy version and not authentic, so I would advise whoever is looking for authenticity to avoid ordering it. However, I liked the combination of all the healthy stuff so I enjoyed it regardless, as a salad bowl rather than as a poke bowl.
Appetizers have always just been hitting different. The cheesecurds, the loaded tots, the pierogies, the brussels sprouts, everything tasted just like how they were 5-6 years ago and they were simply savory in the most positive way. I wouldn’t change anything about any of those dishes.
I tried their beet salad this time as well, and I absolutely loved the combination of beets, goat cheese, carrots, and candied walnuts. I could see that they were trying to use alternative flavors to replace the earthy flavors from the beets and as much as I love beets personally, I appreciated the move. I thought they had an overall generous amount of beets included, which was a plus as well.
I love seeing Highland Grill thriving and I hope it continues to be like such. As I move from place to place, I love making an intentional effort to return to the Highland area just for the food here.

Stopped by on Easter Sunday for a late breakfast/brunch. The dining room was full and we were able to get a booth without waiting. The waitresses were wonderfully friendly and dressed up for the holiday (bunny ears, face paint). The food was delicious and served quickly. The ambiance and decor was really fun. I overheard a little girl leave and say “bye, bye sweet restaurant” as she walked out. I agreed with her sentiments – a very sweet and cozy restaurant.
