I WILL NEVER GO TO THE HIDEAWAY IN CLINTON MD, EVER AGAIN. I will never understand how a black man who is walking around with a MASON hat on will treat people with rudeness, unprofessionalism and be down right mean towards people over a birthday party last evening. How do you come celebrate your birthday and be told that you can stay but the CAKE has to go????? SMH. As I sat there across from the birthday table and witnessed the entire verbal disrespectful conversation. That man, who is also a manager of this establishment which I found out later on when the other manager allowed the cake to come back in, which was refreshing to see. That happened after the DJ and the host said it was ok. Do better black Mason man, in how you speak to black women or any women, someone is always watching. True Masons don’t operate in that manner. You would think he talks to the owner like this, because he is so comfortable doing it to paying customer’s.
I will say the DJ, host and food was superb. Just will not go back because of that manager.

This place is an older crowd, 30+, which is nice. The music is fire with all the nostalgic feels. The food at night of so delicious. It’s a lil pricey and takes a minute, but it’s good and hot and comparable to other places. The drinks are reasonably priced.

On December 27, 2025, my husband and I had a concerning experience at The Hideaway Restaurant that I believe deserves attention and transparency. Upon our arrival around 10 minutes before 8 PM, we were asked for identification as we proceeded to the bar. Everything seem fine until we left around 10:11 PM.

As my husband retrieved cigarettes from his coat pocket and grabbed our clear food container, a security guard, heavy-set gentleman in a purple sweatshirt and blue jeans, without any visible identification or formal security apparel, hustled behind us, inquiring about a drink cup. Despite having food, we were treated with suspicion. A second security personnel member followed (Not Scheduled to work Charles Smith), dressed in casual street clothes without any visible identification or formal security apparel adding to the discomfort with an aggressive demeanor.

I voiced my concern, stating “We are not like that”. This wasn’t just an innocent misunderstanding; it felt like profiling. As my husband enjoyed his cigar, the second security guard continued to watch us, which was both unwarranted and unsettling. In an environment that claims to embrace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we saw none of that durning our visit.

Questions for the owner of The Hideaway Restaurant:

1. Why do your security nits wear recognizable uniform or badges? How are patrons suppose to identify your security personnel?

2. What protocols are in place to ensure that all staff, especially security, are trained in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion standards.

3. How do you handle incident of alleged profiling or discrimination, and what measures are taken to address such concerns.

4. Can you explain the training procedures for security personnel regarding interactions with patrons, especially in terms of recognizing and addressing possible biases?

5. What action will you take to ensure that no other patrons experience what we did?

6. Are your security personnel certified and properly trained according to Maryland state regulations.

We believe that everyone deserves to treated with respect and dignity, irrespective of their background.

Best,

The place was dirty. It was unclear how seating or food orders worked; if you didn’t sit at the bar, then you didn’t receive service. We left without any service.

Prices are reasonable but not sure I will be back. This place needs a remodel and a good cleaning.

The hideaway is definitely my new hideaway spot. I was able to meet the owner, she was very professional, it wasn’t as crowded as the other bars close by, and I was able to watch the game, eat some good food, and the drinks were on point.

It’s been a hot minute since I been here so I’m not sure if the bald headed blonde bartender there anymore. However the few time I had it I had enjoyed myself w/friends, Ms. Valerie was super nice. Found out she doesn’t work later in the evenings. Decided to go one night during the weekend and it was Packed! They do have security as well. I did find that the bald headed chick working that night seemed more interested in flirting with security than taking orders. I had order drinks and food and rather than put our orders in she continued to flirt w/security. Kitchen was getting ready to close and she had said I never ordered food which I had an hr prior to the kitchen closing just like our drinks. Luckily the man in the kitchen went ahead and made our order. When it was time to go she said I never paid my tab which started a whole argument which could’ve been avoided if she had added it to our OPEN tab. But no she was too busy flirting and never did Needless to say I wish I remembered her name and sure hope she doesn’t work there anymore (not that she was doing much work anyways) . May go back and check it out when a civil bartender is working
