We tried this place for lunch while in the area and were greeted once we walked up to the food order line. They took the time to explain and answer questions. We ordered ribs, brisket, jalapeno sausage, regular sausage and pulled pork. All the food items were delicious and cooked to perfection. The sides potato salad, mac and cheese, green beans and coleslaw were very good. Each item was like homemade and just so darn delicious. We found the restaurant clean as were the restrooms. The people behind the counter are very friendly and helpful. Will return again the next time we are in the area

I absolutely love Hickory Roots! They always have the best salad bar, but today I decided to order online and go through the drive thru. The chicken was amazing and full of flavor. The green beans were also very tasty, seasoned just right and cooked perfectly. My meal came with fresh bread rolls, silverware, and BBQ sauce (not pictured)

Ribs were good, the sliced brisket was good and the Mac and cheese was good. The mashed potatoes was another story. They were bland with hardly any flavor. A common trend I have noticed are they are out of things. Last time I was here it was ribs, this time it was jalapenos. The BBQ sauce was also pretty good. All in all not the best, but also not the worst. Limited parking as well, but We will be back.

We were in Terrell and were in the mood for some barbecue. My daughter and I ordered a loaded baked potato with brisket. A side of French fries and my husband ordered a two meat plate (chicken and jalapeño sausage) with a side of BBQ beans and mash potatoes. It was all very delicious and affordable! When we come back to Terrell we will stop by for some amazing BBQ. Highly recommend!

The restaurant was spotless with a well-executed theme, including the bathrooms. The staff were polite and welcoming. While the sliced brisket was tender and properly cooked, it lacked flavor on its own—but the barbecue sauce was excellent and made up for it. The coleslaw looked seasoned but tasted bland and lacked tang. The potato salad, however, was a standout—one of the best I’ve ever had. I know barbecue is a personal thing, and this spot had some hits and a few misses for my taste.

First time and will come back. The service was very friendly. I got the ribs, with a loaded potato with brisket on top. My husband got the sloppy Joe brisket sandwich, ribs and two sides and it was all very delicious.

You have never tasted a really good barbeque until you have been to Hickory Roots BBQ at 705 E Moore Ave in Terrell, Texas. The meat is cooked juicy and tender inside. Maybe the aroma and flavor of the bbq is from the hickory burning wood, but it takes a really good pit master to make it all happen. He made it happen when we were there.
No matter where you are travelling, this place is worth that extra stop. Try it and you will not be disappointed.
