Lots of seafood and dishes that are worth trying if you haven’t ever had (frog legs or octopus). Great way to introduce someone to a variety and for a strong value.
We are 740ish pm and there are still a lot of good warm food in the selection. they closed at 9 but it was great that they still keep it decent amount of food for later patron. The receipt of your total , tax added and being presented as the value you’re supposed to tip from, FYI and remember this is buffet, percentage tip shouldn’t apply.
We went during moderate activity, so you’d think food would be fresh, warm, and we’ll cycled. No. The bar was so lukewarm I could touch the metal basin that held the food trays and it didnt even get hot enough to burn me. So I ate only things I saw them deliver fresh because im not trying to mess with that understated mess. Risky play but it took me 35 to get here, so. Yolo?
The flavor was also bland, and textures regularly off-putting; stale rangoons, hard to chew spring/egg roll wraps, teriyaki chicken that had a mouth feel of paste… very odd. Somehow the soup was aromatic but flavorless almost. It was La Croix soup. The hibachi was on point. I didnt eat hibachi meat; Im not risking that given the heat situation.
When we went to pay, we weren’t going to tip because I DONT KNOW WHO OUR SERVER WAS. We saw someone twice, once for seating once for the check. The other times someone came to clear nobody was at the table. Nobody refilled drinks for me to know.
Anyway. Avoid.
I went with my 2 kids and wife and got 75$ bill.
She wanted us to eat less and make more money.
What kids will eat? Horrible experience
Don’t like it
Durham place was better and quality was good
Buffets can be a gamble; quantity often triumphs over quality, but every now and then, you stumble upon a spot that manages to strike a delightful balance between the two. This buffet may not be the opulent feast that is the Nordic Lodge, but what it lacks in high-end polish, it more than makes up for in variety, flavor, and value.
Let’s start with the standout: the seafood. I was pleasantly surprised by the spicy fried crab—perfectly crisp with just enough heat to wake up the palate. The shrimp were plump and juicy, and the fried fish flaked apart beautifully. And yes, I dared to try the fried frog legs. Verdict? Flavorful, tender, and worth a repeat trip to the station.
One of the highlights for me was the stir fry hibachi station. It’s one of those made-to-order setups where you handpick your ingredients and watch them sizzle to life in front of you. Few things elevate a buffet experience quite like seeing your meal come together with that kind of freshness and flair. Highly customizable and deeply satisfying.
Now, the sushi. I’ll be honest—it won’t be winning any culinary awards, but you have to respect the effort. Think of it like a Venusaur: maybe not the flashiest evolution in the Pokédex, but solid, dependable, and clearly trying its best. Points for presentation and heart.
In the end, this buffet delivers where it matters most: flavor, variety, and value. It may not be fine dining, but for the price, you’re walking away full, happy, and maybe even a little surprised by how good fried frog legs can be.
Let me tell you a story or two, Picture this, it’s Christmas Eve 2020, the covid-19 temporarily shut down my most favorite establishment, I was heartbroken. I was defeated. I was HUNGRY. I could not even feel excited for the Christmas Festivities. UNTIL, it came to my mind, I should just create my very own Hibachi China Buffet AT HOME. And that was the day that I truly knew, I was never truly fulfilled without my favorite restaurant.
Now, it’s Christmas Eve, 2023. It was a cold night, my grandma Laura was sick, nearing the end, in the hospital. She loved this restaurant more than she loved me and she was feeling hopeless when they said she could not be discharged in time for Christmas Eve. Until, we got a call. They told us that it merely was days left for her, they thought it was pointless to keep her locked up in the hospital room. They let us take her home. We felt sad, beginning our phase of mourning. But, we still had to go to dinner at our favorite restaurant. Grandma Laura was weak, almost couldn’t wheel her chair to the door, almost could lift her fork to her mouth, BUT, she still pushed through because this dinner could be her last. She tastefully enjoyed the chicken pho, mini squid, and jello. With the few words she could muster, she said…yum. That night, when the sleigh bells rang and the reindeer stomped, she looked at me, she picked one foot up, then another, and walked towards me, embracing me fully for the first time in months. Today, exactly two years later, she is sitting across from me, at Hibachi China Buffet, eating the same pho, squid, and jello, which she RAN through the buffet lines for. It is true, that we fully believe that it was the pho that saved her life.
Thank you Hibachi China Buffet for providing a home, an escape, and allowing me to enter your world of fine cuisine, for the past 8 years of my life.
