This was our first time in New Plymouth. We came here because we saw high ratings on Google. Just like the online reviews, the atmosphere and service were excellent. The only downside was that the wait for the food was a bit long. Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth coming to for a meal with friends and family.

We had an excellent experience here. The staff were very friendly and highly attentive. The food was beautiful, we especially enjoyed the seafood pasta. Great atmosphere too, just an overall lovely restaurant for a nice dinner out.

We had a very pleasant evening at the Hi Fri. Don’t let the name fool you as the Service and Food are excellent and we also had a really nice bottle of chardonnay to go with the catch of the day.
Highly recommend

Totally loved our dining experience at Hi-Fri! Had been looking for a seafood restaurant to dine at for my birthday trip to New Plymouth and this definitely met my expectations. The food was delicious, perfect portions and reasonably priced. Mocktail was a lovely treat and the old school finishing touches of white tablecloths and fresh flowers in a vase on each table made it feel super special! Will definitely be back 🙂

I enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience. A big part of that was the very good acoustics. My friends and I could actually hear each other’s conversations. The food was delicious. And a good selection. The service was friendly and spot on. Highly recommended.

Wonderful and attentive staff and great selection of food, scallops were 10/10, and fish and chips was perfect! Think I’ll come back tomorrow

Delicious meal for 3! A classic shrimp cocktail done right and paua fritters with the yummiest sauce for starters. The Kaimoana basket, panko crumb crab cake and prawn and scallop pasta in a dreamy lemon and dill cream for mains were all nicely presented and cooked wonderfully. Can’t beat an OG banana split for dessert – even with the extra “spoon” !! A lovely team who know what they are doing and some excellent banter really made it a fantastic evening. Thank you Hi-Fri team, we will be back!

What fabulous find on our last night in New Plymouth.
1930s deco and atmosphere.
Very friendly and helpful service.
We had been romanticize about an old school traditional prawn cocktail and we weren’t disappointed. All the food was fabulous and the scallops melting in our mouths.
Our best restaurant experience in New Plymouth.

The most talked about restaurant in the last month – Hi-Fri Seafood Kitchen , former known as Marinovich’s Seafood Restaurant. Our family went there during one of the busy nights when everyone seemed to be in town and the place was full by 6pm! We liked the European design and sat down closer to kitchen to watch chefs at work. I have ordered the fish of the day, it was fresh, balanced and nutritious meal. My husband ordered a sirloin steak, that came with a superb pink that suggested a medium rare state of meat. Our son has ordered a seafood basket, which was an abundant offer, all cooked in semolina crumbs. Nice touch – they kept part of the original menu, so loyal locals can come and order the food they loved for decades. Hi Fri everyone!

Wonderful food and excellent service! Really like manager Victor, he is amazing and hospitality!
Definitely will visit here again, and super recommend their house made pappardelle pasta, the cream is just that good! Also bluff ousters are super fresh, just need to dim a little vinegar and lemon juice. Last but not least, Kaimoana basket gathers all the fresh seafood, and the wedges are impressive.
Tips: Make a reservation before you come.
