Soul food standards, including fried chicken & BBQ plates, served up in a compact, no-frills space.

One thing I’m going to do is eat so so let me tell you a small story about this place is a cute small restaurant. Customer service was a five out of 10 wasn’t too friendly. The baked chicken was 9/10 the breast was a little dry they dressing was amazing. Didn’t care for the gravy, cornbread 7/10 dry mac & cheese, old-school made so I give it 7/10 now when it comes to the cabbage was not too happy cause I love cabbage no seasoning. Prices is very well. Still will try them again. Maybe the other location the customers was more friendly with each other than the workers was with the customers

Hi guys… First time visiting this establishment and I must say the food was ok.. I ordered the chitterling dinner. It was a very small portion for a $30.00 plate. I don’t think I’ll be going back. The turkey dinner was good I’m told. Just wasn’t happy with the dressing. Said it was horrible, not to mention a very small portion…So try at your own risk… Peace

Our 1st time here today, 9-24-2025. It was 5 of us. 2 got pork chops, 2 got fish and 1 got beef ribs. When I tell you the food was delicious I mean it was gooood AND HOT! Whewww we came from NC to DC for business and looked for places to eat afterwards. Hands down the BEST food I’ve had in a long time! I also forgot to tell ya it’s enough food for 2 ppl on 1 plate!

I knew the food was about to be delicious when you hear old music soul music playing outside! I am from North Carolina and i think our soul food is top tier and Henry is in the running for being up there with NC! The chitterlings are 10 out of 10, good and cut up good and fine! The Mac and cheese was seasoned and yummy, no salt needed. The greens where the only thing i was not a fan of

Was more of like a 4.5 but the overall score is criminally low so giving it 5 stars to help the average.
Easily the best soul food in DC that I can think of. Was thoroughly impressed with the turkey, mashed potatoes, and the SWEET POTATO PIE! Great service and friendly staff. If you want a historical Black DC establishment that still knows what they’re doing in the kitchen, than look no further. I would never take an outsider to anywhere of the other famous spots. (won’t name them out of respect)
Only negative for me was the Mac and cheese. (Which may be a big thing for some folks since this is such a crucial side for soul food) It was too mild for my tastes. It goes decently with the rest of the meal, but definitely a bit lacking in cheesiness if that makes sense.
Definitely my go-to in the neighborhood now.

We are from out of town looking for some soul food. Henry’s Soul Cafe came through for the win! We got 3 Catfish platters and they all were banging! Got greens as a side, macaroni cheese was passable, cabbage was passable too. My wife enjoyed it too so when we are down here visiting we will be back.

Thomas and Krissy had fantastic hospitality!! Everyone did an amazing job the food felt like it was doing magic tricks with all the flavors in my mouth. Portions for the price were just right! Not too many places around with great service and food. Wont mind not one bit to drive to Maryland to be back here and try everything else. The chicken, sides, and banana pudding was served fresh and hot and didn’t miss a thing!!!

This was my first time at this establishment so of course I was a little skeptical if I was really going to get some truly good soul food. I ordered the country style steak with mashed potatoes with gravy and greens also it came with the cornbread. My second order was the beef ribs Mac & cheese and greens even though I did ask for yams, but it’s OK. For dessert I got the sweet potato pie, which was amazing. I definitely will be returning for a slice of pie or even buy an entire pie. The food was good, I would’ve gave a five star but the beef ribs was very skimpy my first beef rib was very meaty. The second and 3rd had little to no meat on it was hidden with the first rib that was very disappointing. But I am definitely willing to try this establishment out again.
Suggestion to go menus would be appreciated
