My God!! We went to the Henry’s in DC on 1/23/2026. The worst collard greens I have ever had in my life!! My husband and I both spit them out. They were not can collards. I just don’t know how a person could destroy collard greens like that. They could not have used any kind of meat to season it. I cannot figure out what was used for seasoning. Whatever it was, stop using it. You don’t have to get fancy with seasoning. Plain old salt and pepper goes a long way. The collard greens’ texture was too soft for me. My husband said the texture was fine for him. Then there is the mac-n-cheese. The mac was extremely grainy. There was cheese on top. However, it appears that some kind of cheese sauce was used in the mac because there was no actual cheese throughout once you get past the top. Not even Velveeta fake cheese. Not a good short cut. I know you can do better. The sweet potato pie was not for me. I don’t like nutmeg. My husband said minus the nutmeg, the pie was ok. The texture was good and the crust was cooked throughout. The corn muffin was very good, 4.5 to 5. The lemon pound cake was also good, a solid 4. The chicken wings and whiting fish were good, a 3.5. The breading was seasoned however you could tell that the chicken and fish itself was not seasoned. Well cooked though. Regarding atmosphere, it’s fine for a carryout spot. I gave it a 2 overall because a soul food spot must have good mac and collards. We are not likely going there again.

I travel to the DMV frequently and have heard so much about this spot and I’m so glad I stopped by!You can feel the love when you walk through the door.
I visited twice during my week stay, that speaks for itself.
I ordered the chicken wings (fried to perfection and seasoned very well, Mac & cheese was divine, candied yams were delish, and the woman who greeted me (I forgot her name unfortunately) recommended their sweet potato pie – they’re known for it, it was 10/10, I also enjoyed their greens.
All of the food was made fresh and I left with fresh food, excellent service and warm smiles each time I visited. The food couldn’t wait until the hotel, I had to snap pics immediately in the car and sample a bite of EVERYTHING. See you next month!

Everything tasted old and needed to be thrown out. I ordered fried catfish, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and sweet potato pie, and nothing tasted fresh. The catfish was clearly fried in old grease and had a bad taste. The oil seriously needs to be replaced. After eating, I felt awful and sick. My husband ordered the turkey legs, fried okra, and cornbread dressing and felt the same way. Very disappointing experience. My husband was looking forward to eating here. We normally enjoy our experience.

The best food I’ve tried in DC!! The place was warm and welcoming, and the quality-to-price ratio was excellent. I had some fried chicken, mac&cheese, and a potato salad paired with an amazing strawberry lemonade (still dreaming about it) They also have a restroom and a few bar seats to sit! Merci

Our school faculty ordered catering from Henry’s, and even though I’ve never eaten there in person, I’m giving it my highest recommendation! The food arrived full of bold, delicious flavors, everything tasted amazing. I’m already excited to visit the restaurant myself. If you haven’t tried Henry’s yet, you’re missing out it’s a must!”

First & foremost as much money as this establishment makes I would think they would invest in a ‘WET FLOOR SIGN’ im currently pregnant & easily could of slipped. Customer service from management/ short light skin black hair cook in the back is POOR. I didnt catch her name which is why i described how she looked. Didnt see a hair net or gloves on at all coming to & from the kitchen. Greens were horrible seemed rushed with BIG CHUNKY STALKS left on greens & undercooked and no seasoning. I get stuffed chicken all the time which comes with stuffing today it seems as though the staff was eager to leave rushing to make orders as my plate had the smallest scoop of stuffing doused with souch gravy to the point where the stuffing was so overloaded with gravy it was soggy before even leaving out the establishment. I work in food service so as paying customer when I asked for a separate container of stuffing without gravy( as I was not eating right then & there) instead of the lady cook providing a courtesy container for the inconvenience as she can see the gravy is overloaded she replied very rudely “thats not how this work” and initially wanted to take the already paid for container of food back in the back kitchen just to remove the small scoop of stuffing that was going in the trash anyway because it’s already been opened & touched by the customer. Im concerned for health reasons of cross contamination & saving scraps of food to use for other customers after me because normally I’ve never witnessed such a thing at other restaurants. Maybe she wanted to save for herself to enjoy a snack in the back on her break after a long hard day of working in a hot kitchen.& the mac was mid. Its 2025 Work on better customer service & better presentation.

Well worth the drive!! While visiting the Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville, Maryland I was in the mood for some soul food. I googled a few place by looking at the pictures, so Henry’s soul cafe in Washington DC caught my eye, Plus I was going to be in the area. Food looked good but I had to wait till I got back to my room to eat because I didn’t go to the one with a seating area, No problem though lol but I was hungry. All the sides were delicious, i got the rib plate it was good and tender. My wife got the fried pork chop plate and she loved it. So much food we was eating off each other plate.

Omg on vacation for a long weekend decided to give this place a try. It was a complete 10/10. Got the catfish and smothered porkchop. The sides yams, cabbage and mashed potatoes on point and cornbread. I recommend it if you want soul food from a fellow Alabama girly.
