Absolutely unacceptable. One of the worst Jamaican food experiences I’ve ever had.

I ordered pepper steak with rice and peas from Henrica’s, and from the moment I opened the container, it was a red flag. The “pepper steak” was battered in flour—which is already questionable—and when I took the first bite, the steak was clearly undercooked and raw inside. It was disgusting and completely inedible. I stopped eating immediately.

The rice and peas was just as bad. Bland, dry, and missing the most basic elements of what rice and peas is supposed to be. There was no coconut flavor and barely any peas at all. It honestly looked like plain white rice with a few peas sprinkled in as an afterthought.

This meal was not edible, period.

I called the restaurant right away to report the issue and was told I’d have to bring the food back in person for them to “review it” and then they would issue a store credit. Why would I want a store credit from a Jamaican restaurant that can’t properly cook pepper steak or rice and peas, two absolute staples? The meal was only $10.59, so the pushback made no sense—especially when they expected me to drive back out of my way just to prove their food was poorly cooked.

The lunch special also came with a so-called “juice.” It tasted like straight white sugar water—no real flavor at all, just a red tint from who knows what. Completely artificial and unpleasant.

Between the bad food, poor customer service, and the lack of accountability, I truly don’t understand how this place is still in business. As a fellow Jamaican, this was especially disappointing. This type of food does not represent our culture or our cuisine.

0/10. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Save your money and your time. Run the other way.

The only Jamaican restaurant I trust in Queens is The Door.

upon return and after examination had to nerve to tell me it’s red meat that’s how it should look these people are BBC DISGUSTING AND NASTY

Please look at the photo and honestly tell me if this is a 5-star meal. I wouldn’t even feed this to a dog.

All of the recent reviews are negative, so this is clearly a pattern of poor food quality, not a one-off experience or “just me.”

I was respectful from the beginning. I called immediately about the undercooked beef and politely requested a refund multiple times. I was told repeatedly that the store policy is store credit only, which makes no sense when the issue is food safety.

When I went to the restaurant, instead of apologizing, I was told that “this is how beef is supposed to look” because it’s red meat — as if I don’t know the difference between properly cooked steak and undercooked beef. There was no apology, no accountability. I was given three bottles of juice so I wouldn’t “lose out completely,” even though the money was still lost.

Why would I want to consume anything else made here after being served undercooked food?

What’s truly unprofessional is your manager/owner, David, telling an unhappy customer that “he got something for me” and “I’ll get what I deserve.”
What I deserved was a refund and an apology — not intimidation.

It appears to be the workers are trying to protect the reputation of this establishment by making false claims that I’m lying or being paid to leave a review. That’s completely untrue. I have photos, call logs, and receipts to back up everything I said.

So I’ll ask one simple question:
Would YOU eat that?

Please find someone else to play with. Thank you.

After posting this review, the restaurant repeatedly called my phone (9 times) and told me I was “unprofessional” for leaving an honest review. No refund was issued only juice was offered in place of the meal. This interaction further confirmed my concerns.

@Richard & @Everton @Mathew if the issue was resolved why call my phone 9 times AFTERWARDS. @10:27pm Why throw stones then hide? Yall (everyone working the night shift) made threats then try to play victim are yall okay ??? you threaten me saying ima get what i deserved so i came back to see what is it i deserve? my money an apology?

This restaurant use to be good. I am not sure what changed but I have been ordering the chicken, veggie, and jerk chicken fried rice for 6 years. the last 3 times I had ordered it, it has a spoiled taste and smell. to the point my son always ask for it & he said mom it has a funny taste and smell. That is unacceptable!! I will not continue to give them a cent of my hard earned money since they feel it’s ok to give ppl crap to put in their stomach.

I started coming here over three years ago for their Chinese infused menu. I would always order the chicken and broccoli, or chicken fried rice. Well I decided to get some chicken fried rice this time and I haven’t been here in about 4 or 5 months maybe longer. Well, they’ve changed the type of chicken they used to use. When I got home and opened up the container I’m looking for chicken but it seemed little pieces of something I didn’t know what it was, I didn’t see the large chunks of chicken that used to come in the chicken fried rice. So I called them and informed them I think I have the wrong order, that This rice doesn’t have any chicken in it. I was told to bring it back, which I did. They lady took the container to the back and said she’s going to fix the order. I waited about 5 minutes she came back and said here you go sorry for the mishap. I opened and took a look, what do I see? More of the stuff I saw before, but this time in a little more bigger pieces.I rejected the order, had to go back and forth with the lady about how disappointed I was with the food. She told me that the chicken is always that way, which was a bold-faced lie. Anyway I decided to not patronize this business anymore, the food used to be good, even though you might have to wait 40 minutes for it ,it used to be worth it. Not anything

I decided to have dinner at henrica’s tonight. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive and had a huge smile. The wait for the food was very long I would say about 25 to 30 minutes. I had an order of ribs and a side order of mash potatoes and a fruit punch. Hats off to the chef the food was excellent when the bill came I was so surprised. They charged be a service fee because I dined Alone and the bill said under 3 people there would be a service fee of $2.99 the ribs was $15 and the mash potatoes was $6 ok why would you charge $7.75 for a fruit punch. That blew my mind the juice was more than the side how is that possible it makes no sense in their menu showed $5 for pineapple juice and did not give you no other options so I ask the waitress for another juice at to my surprise they charge at outrageous price plus if I wanted to dine alone I will now have to pay a service fee. Never again will I patronize a business that I feel I am being taken advantage. The chef and the waitress belongs in a better establishment than that.
If they told me the food was more money then I would have been fine with it but I walked away feeling taken advantage of.

Service was slow, why, I saw only waiter, the the bartender starting help since the place started to get busy. Food was excellent, good mix music. I missed Nakishaki, prior owner was Chinese Jamaican and the Chinese food they used to sell was great. My pork Chinese rice I had today, did not cut. Overall nice place.

Only leaving a star because that’s the minimum requirement to leave a review, i was utterly disappointed in this establishment, being local to the area i wanted to revisit what used to be a childhood staple , clearly that was the worst decision i could’ve made that week. I had ordered a plate of “food” from here, sweet and sour jerk chicken with rice and peas. The first issue noticed which was dismissable was the rice and peas had no peas , and secondly the chicken was very dry. There’s much better options for Jamaican food if you’re in the area and if you’re craving Jamaican Chinese you’re better off finding a really good Chinese spot and Jamaican spot with actual good food and combine at home before you waste your money and energy at this entity.

My friend suggested going to a Jamaican restaurant. We were seated at a table but it took a while before our server came to take our drink order. My friend ordered Jerk chicken and salad and I ordered grilled salmon and salad. We asked to have our salads first but it never happened and the server never came back until our entire order was ready. The wait time for our entrees was long and the salads would have quenched the lag. The food, however, was delicious and I enjoyed the music.
