I’ve eaten here hundreds of times with my family. Tonight was the last time, which is unfortunate, because I like the food. We’ve had dozens of really good waitresses over the years, but tonight we crossed paths with perhaps the dumbest server I’ve ever had in any restaurant experience in 30 years.
We ordered common menu items like BBQ sandwiches and sat and waited. Normally the wait is less than ten minutes. Tonight was busy, so I expected to wait longer.
We waited an HOUR and got no food. The rest of the restaurant section we sat in cycled through people twice while we were ignored. Sure we got refills (from the rest of the friendly staff), and about five or six fake updates from our “waitress” that the kitchen staff was working on our food.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, when you make a mistake, like forget to submit someone’s order, just fix it. It’s that simple. This girl literally ignored us like we were sick with a plague instead of fixing the problem.
She also had a terrible attitude and blamed everything on the kitchen rather than admitting her mistake and fixing it. When we finally gave up, I requested the check to cover the one meal we actually received, she said “oh we comped your food”.
That’s not the point. We wanted to eat. Now we are at a different drive thru. So not only did you not fix your problem you essentially kicked us out without the food I was more than willing to pay for. Didn’t ask for a comp. Didn’t ask for a discount. Wanted to eat. She “comped” our food because SHE NEVER SUBMITTED THE ORDER.
I won’t be back until she’s gone. And so the other perfectly nice waiters and waitresses know I’m not talking about them, I will describe her here as the plain blonde wearing round black glasses. Definitely new since like I said we eat here all the time and she’s never been there before.
For the sake of the restaurant, and the entire industry really, please do everyone a favor and fire this girl before she does this again. She shouldn’t be interacting with the public in any capacity.
Business school professors should do a case study on serving incompetence for MBA students or something with this one. She successfully got me to leave the first negative review in my entire life.

I was not impressed. Didn’t like the food. All TVs were on fox news. Never brought check to my table. Prices were high and they charged more for using my debit card. (I absolutely hate this last thing and it seems all these small businesses are charging like this now!?!? It’s 2026 and I’ve been getting my paychecks direct deposited for decades now, which is required. Everything is electronic so why now am I having to pay 3-5% extra to use my debit card? There are fewer steps involved vs cash, so???)
Overall, I loved the place years ago as Steve’s. Not so much now.

We needed something to eat after the Polar Express, it was pouring and we were too soaked to go in…but they had a drive thru! With the nicest lady working who told us everything we needed to order. Food was great, apple bites can’t be missed, and we had a ball eating a great meal in the car. So happy to have found this little gem!

This is one of our favorite spots to eat. Our kids always beg to come here and get a cheeseburger. Not only are their cheeseburgers delicious but you can get 3 free kids meals per 1 adult meal. This really makes things affordable for larger families. *side note: not the best photo of the cheeseburger because my daughter already started to dig in*
My husband ordered the bbq chicken, red slaw, and pintos. I ordered the chopped pork bbq, red slaw, and pintos. Everything was delicious and we came on a very busy day. Even though they were very busy, service and food quality was still great.

This place was amazing!! Absolutely no complaints. The food was delicious. The staff and waitress were awesome. First time here, and we loved it. I love Barbecue and Love trying new BBQ spots, and Hendrix Barbecue is definitely worth the 5 stars. We will definitely be returning soon!

This was exactly the diner we were looking for on our visit to NC from the UK last year. This is a true local eatery with authentic home cooked food. Our accents attracted attention, which was fine because everyone was so friendly, servers and other diners. It felt as if we were all friends. We had our lunch here and it was a great lunch. Big helpings and so flavoursome.

We LOVE Hendrix Barbecue in Spencer!! We do not eat at any other locations!! They are the ultimate Family restaurant. The food is good, service is great, and Kids eat FREE which is phenomenal!!!
