I had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to go to Hemingway’s Underground for weeks and was so excited when a Saturday evening time slot opened up for a table for two. Definitely recommend making reservations as the place fills up quick!
Right when you walk in, the vibe is amazing—super cool atmosphere with a few tables and plenty of bar seating. We were greeted immediately and taken to our reserved table. Our server, Kayla, was phenomenal the entire night.
We started with two cocktails—the Two Hit Punch Fig and the Maple Cranberry Bourbon Smash—along with the antipasti board. The drinks were out of this world, and the antipasti board was a perfect mix of fun cheeses, meats, and giardiniera.
For entrées, we had the short rib and the Athenian chicken. Both were an absolute flavor bomb and cooked perfectly. I especially loved the light citrus on the arugula.
We ended up having four more cocktails each (they were that good!) and finished with the tiramisu cheesecake for dessert.
Everything was paced perfectly, and the staff was incredibly attentive. Plates were cleared promptly, and although they apologized a few times for minor things, we honestly never noticed anything wrong or inconvenient.
It was such a wonderful date night while celebrating our first anniversary. We will absolutely be back—especially for those drinks!

Hemingway’s is an interesting place. We’ll begin with the drinks. They had a banana sazerac, which didn’t taste like a sazerac but was very nice tasted almost like banana pudding. How ever the banana fosters Manhattan was not good. It actually tried to fix the flavors of a Manhattan with the same banana flavor from before but the cherry and smokey elements of a Manhattan did not mix well. The martini was fine it tasted like a bad screwdriver there was just a bunch of competing flavors and they give you a shot of champagne with it to bring out some more notes. It kind of works but also the champagne is way better than the martini. The chocolate martini was excellent actually it wasn’t sickly sweet and had a nice dark chocolate flavor to it. The tea based martini was also excellent as well. Now the food also tells a similar story to the drinks of a mixed bag. The pesto Pasta is amazing beautifully seasoned and excellent cook on the noodles. The chicken salad sandwich is standard but good. The braised lamb however is very under seasoned and leaves the meat tasteless. The cook of the lamb is a little dry as well. It looks incredible with this large bone in lamb but the taste just doesn’t match. The anti pasta board was very good. With great variety. Overall the place is a mixed bag. But there is alot of interesting ideas going on here. I do think if you are willing to just sample a lot of items you will find incredible things. But it is costly here to sample a lot ranging $60 to $70 for each of us. The menu here also constantly rotates so maybe next month its way better or maybe it’s not. The place is super small so try to get a reservation if you plan on going there is only a handful of seats in here. To me the popularity of this place comes from the sense of exclusivity. It’s small and can be hard to get a reservation which makes people want to come here more.

Had a middle ground experience, the cocktails were served promptly and were pretty good. I did find that the drink menu felt a little too long and I was overwhelmed. Ordered the chicken salad sandwich and was accidentally given the chicken salad spread. Upon alerting my server to this they went to the kitchen threw it on a croissant and gave it right back to me. When charging $16 for a chicken salad sandwich with no sides I expected atleast a fresh sandwich. As well as the grapes looked rather un appetizing. I think they would benefit from a couple more generic run of the mill cocktails for anyone who wanted to experience the atmosphere without the crafted cocktail taste. Would try here again, but don’t think I would order food.

Our bartender Tom was very nice and provided us with several drink recommendations, all of which were delicious. The lamb shank and prime rib were both excellent dishes. Hemingway’s Underground is a great option if you are looking for an upscale experience with strong curation.

A pure gem. The entire staff was extremely friendly the moment we walked in. The atmosphere is very classy, cozy, and clean. All the food we ordered was delicious, but the drinks were outstanding. Thank you for a great experience! This was well worth the wait and I am excited to go back to try more!!

To start, I will say I was pretty excited to hear about this place. Medina has been waiting for an at-hand cocktail bar, and when I saw the logo design and heard the name–being an avid reader of Hemingway, of course–I had to visit and see what it lived up to.
And it lived up to quite a bit! Although there may be some mentions about their prices, I do have to firstly disclaim that we are on Medina Square, after all, and that the experience is well-worth the cost. I absolutely adore the lengthy drink menu, the impressive flavors in the kitchen, and the wonderful service from the staff. While I won’t name exactly what they did for my party due to the possibility of patrons trying to purposely recreate it, they really look out for their guests and try to make the experience as pleasant as possible for you. I’ve seen such accommodation and hospitality here that you’d almost be shocked to witness it in as impersonal and opportunistic of a time as now.
My well and truly only gripe is that the overall atmosphere of the place is a bit lacking, at least to the aesthetic that their brand lends. Basic decor, basic seating; the bar is a fun spot, especially their little television playing black and white snippets. I think if there was some added definition (panel molding, vintage ornamentation, etc.), it’d be much more ambient and speakeasy-adjacent rather than the common hotel bar feel it resembles now.
Overall, enjoy the well-crafted drinks (some of which the staff personally create), the antique tunes, and be prepared to make a reservation at least a couple days in advance (it’s a fairly small space in there)! Fantastic experiences here.

This place has so much potential. But there seems to be a few issues that come from a new restaurant. It definitely isn’t a speakeasy. It’s more of a hip hotel bar vibe. My reservation was on a Friday night at 730. We arrived a few mins early and our table was ready. The hosts were great. We were seated with menus. It was about 15 minutes before any server acknowledged us and asked for drinks orders. Since we sat so long we ordered everything at once. Drinks are very cool but on the pricey side. My friend asked for water and got it about an hour later. They seem to have their waiters also bartending?? Which doesn’t make sense which is probably why we waited forever. The appetizers were very good. My dinner was the basil pesto pasta and it was just ok. The noodles were clumped together.

Came for a nightcap after dinner and sat at the bar. I loved the atmosphere! Our bartender(s) were so friendly and knowledgeable. I feel like the price of the cocktail was appropriate for what you get. So many times at restaurants, cocktails taste like a sugared mixer with a shot of alcohol. The drinks here are an experience and need to be appreciated for the craft behind them. I love that they’re willing to try different tastes and flavor enhancements. Can’t wait to come back!

We made reservations with a group of friends to come and stop by for drinks. You definitely need to make a reservation, at least on a weekend as the place was full. No one without a reservation was making it in.
We are all fans of cocktails excited to try a new cocktail place. The atmosphere is great, the bar is nice, and they’ve done a good job renovating the place into a neat space. I would like some more comfortable seating options, as they have mostly hightop tables, but if you are coming for food, it makes sense to have more tables then comfortable seating. They do have a couple of areas with couches, we may just have to be specific in our reservation next time.
The service we had started great, but unfortunately after about an hour our server came off service and we got a new one that was also handling multiple other tables. Not her fault, but she was struggling to handle the volume of need.
The drinks were a mixed bag. Some were great, some were just ok.
I think as they progress, you’ll see them continue to get their legs underneath them and really make this place into something. I will go back.

This place is amazing! The restaurant is stunning the moment you walk in and the bar is beautiful.
First the know their drinks. The drink menu is perfectly sized and yes reasonably priced too. They didn’t ask what we wanted but what we liked and then gave amazing suggestions.
Second the food is was delicious. The apps are perfect sized for sharing and the entree’s delicious.
Please order their Bolognese since it’s fresh pasta and amazi Italian sausage.
My wife and I will be back for more.
We’ll done Hemingway’s!
