Wonderful dinner at our newest place to be in downtown Paso Robles. We were greeted with a smile and immediately seated. Beautiful decorated dinning room with a lot of attention to detail. Classy black with gold trim is the theme, black and white photos of Mr. Hemingway’s adventures hung throughout, eye catching fully stocked traditional floor to ceiling bar is the main feature of the room. Ribeye streak cooked medium rare melts in your mouth. Parmesan encrusted Caesar salad is a must. Wine lockers available with excellent rates. I think Mr. Hemingway would very much enjoy dinning here. I look forward to my next visit!

After an afternoon of drinking reds, I was in the mood for a high quality steak. I was so excited we got lucky and was able to get last minute reservation. However, the experience did not live up to the hype from the reviews. Firstly, do not expect a romantic dinner there. You almost have to speak with a soft yell to hear each other. It’s soooo very loud, even the wait staff apologized many times as it is hard to hear and they had to ask for us to repeat what we were saying. The steaks were mediocre at best, the appetizers were good, nothing spectacular. The biggest offense was the popovers. If I was running the line, I would NEVER have let those leave my kitchen. As soon as they came out, I told the table they don’t look right (see pic). They were super dense. Popovers should be light and airy, not dense and chewy like mochi. Almost as as bad as the popovers was the creamed spinach, id change the the discription to ” room tempertaure heavy cream with spinach”. For the price point, this restaurant should be on point. Given its a new restaurant, I can forgive 1, maybe 2 dishes being meh, but 3 dishes being meh and 1 downright offensive is just a no-no. Frankly, I would have enjoyed a meal at Outback or Texasroadhouse much more. Having said that, our server was a champ and the drinks were good. I’ll stop in once more in a couple of months, maybe they will get the kinks worked out. Long story short, we all left feeling disappointed. P.S., to the kitchen, I recommend focusing on better plating on your higher price point item such as the lobster before your creme brulee, I mean at least you slapped on a bit of gold on the brulee to make it look nice.

Wonderful dining experience . Safe to say that it has many variations on steaks from tomahawk to aged ribeye. I enjoyed the beef short ribs and my wife had the prime rib eye. Sides are ordered separately and serve two. Some dishes come with sides. Great bar. Two hours of free parking, but I would download app for peace of mind. After 8 I think you’re in the clear but enforcement was out at 530pm. They have a very cool chefs table for large groups. Decor is classy.

Our original dinner plans didn’t work out so as we were walking by Hemingways, we decided to go in.
Ambience = 5/5
Service = 5/5
Drinks = 4/5
Price for quality = 3/5
Timelines = 3/5
The ambience is top notch. As you walk in the door you get a speak-easy kinda vibe. The floor to ceiling alcohol wall and bar looked impressive but their cocktail menu was underwhelming. There a wide selection of wines and you have the option of getting still or sparkling water.
This is definitely different from all the other nearby eateries I’ve visited in the downtown area over the last few weeks. Since we did not plan to go “fancy” we were casually dressed and definitely stood out from the other diners.
Amy was our server for the night. She explained all the specials from memory and was attentive to us all night. The Maître d’ came to our table to check how we were doing and briefly chatted with us. She even informed us that the restaurant had only been open for 3 weeks. The staff overall was pleasant.
We had a table of 5. I think our orders were simple; all of us got steak with sides. But, it took forever for our meals to arrive. Most of us were already 2 drinks and an appetizer in without having our food. A table next to us with 3 guests came in about 10-15 minutes after us but they received their entrées before us. Honestly, we were ready to leave.
When our food finally arrived, it was nothing overly impressive. Mine and one others steak was a bit charred. Another friend stated that he’d had better steaks for better prices (we each paid upwards of $60 for our meal). I thought my steak was good until I tried my friend’s steak, hers was so much tender and moist.
See a picture of my reciept:
Still water – $7/bottle (2 bottles split 5 ways)
2020 Saldo, Zinfandel, California – $15/glass
Steak dinner w/ Ceasar salad, shallot whisky glaze, and asparagus from the house specials menu – $65
The experience was okay but I would probably not go back Hemingways or recommend it as a “must go” place while visiting Paso Robles.
Upwards $60+ for my steak and asparagus was definitely not worth it. Maybe with more time they can work out some of the kinks with timeliness of orders and preparation/consistency of steaks.

Hemingway’s, the steakhouse I recently had the pleasure of dining at, exceeded all expectations and left an indelible mark on my culinary experience. From the moment I entered, I was enveloped in an ambiance that transported me to a bygone era of sophistication and elegance. The dimly lit dining room, adorned with vintage décor and mellow jazz in the background, set the stage for an unforgettable evening.
The star of the show, of course, was the food. Hemingway’s showcased an exceptional selection of prime cuts of steak, each expertly cooked to perfection. The menu was a carnivore’s dream, with a variety of cuts and preparation options, from the tender filet mignon to the rich, marbled ribeye. The steaks were charred to a delightful crust on the outside yet incredibly tender and juicy inside, revealing the culinary expertise of the chefs.
The wine list was extensive, featuring an array of reds and whites to complement the steak perfectly. The attentive and knowledgeable staff was more than willing to offer recommendations and ensure that every aspect of our dining experience was flawless.
What truly set Hemingway’s apart was the impeccable service. The staff was not only well-versed in the menu but also possessed an innate ability to make diners feel valued and welcomed. They anticipated our needs, and their warm, personable approach made us feel like cherished guests.
In conclusion, Hemingway’s is a steakhouse that transcends the ordinary. It’s a place where the art of cooking meat reaches its zenith, where ambiance and service come together to create a memorable dining experience. If you’re seeking a restaurant that combines superb cuisine, a captivating atmosphere, and exceptional service, Hemingway’s should be at the top of your list. My visit left me with a profound appreciation for the culinary craft, and I eagerly look forward to returning to this gem of a steakhouse.

If you are looking for a quiet romantic place to have dinner, this is not the place. The acoustics are not good, and the tables are way to close together. I had to ask the person at the table next to me to get up and let me pass by so I could set down. Our table for 4 was more like table for 12, since we could hear everything said at the tables next to us.
Now onto the food. I had braised short ribs, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed spinach. Ribs were good, sauce was nice, garlic mashed potatoes had little flavor, could not taste any garlic. Spinach was very good. Had French onion soup. It was good, not great. Average at best. One in our party had the pork chop, and it was very good. Service was very good.
We agreed, we would not go back. Expected better, when we spent $300 for the 4 of us, and one person, only had soup. Price included only 1 adult beverage.

BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER. Not playing around. I’m not sure what they do to them. Good in general 10+. Bartenders are artists, every cocktail we ordered was lovingly crafted. When I travel I never go to the same place twice, Hemingways was my exception to the rule

Stephanie was so kind and she made sure we had everything we needed. She also was very knowledgeable about every plate they served. The food was excellent! All the staff there made us feel like we had been coming there for ages. We definitely will be coming here when we are in town.
Thank you for making our dinning a great experience.

Last night, I was fortunate enough to experience the soft opening of Hemingway’s Steakhouse. From the minute you walk in, you’re greeted with smiles. The quality of the decor is rich and impeccable. The staff are wonderfully gracious. The bartenders are knowledgeable at their crafts. The wine list is memorable and the food quality is the best you’ll find anywhere. This place is going to be an experience you must encounter. 5 Stars all the way!! I’ll definitely be back, every visit to Paso Robles…

Bad dining experience. We came to this restaurant on a recommendation from a local for steak in Paso Robles, California. Restaurants decorated very nicely but if I’m looking at the menu be found in the steak entrées very highly priced. we ordered our meals and when they came out we were not impressed. The New York strip was mot what not what you’d expect at a fine dining establishment. Upon tasting the meat. One was over cooked despite requesting medium rare. It was tough and chewy and like flavor over salty. The waitstaff was arrogant and surely. They forgot to put in my other companions soup, and did not apologize for bringing it out late. Mediocre at best.
We would not recommend this restaurant until the quality of their food and service matches the prices.
