Holidaying in Bohol, Philippines, we decided to visit a place that had so many positive reviews: The Heliconia Bistro! After making the mandatory reservation we arrived at that small restaurant and were immediately under its unique charm The Chef’s genuine warm welcome made us feel right at home in this little corner of paradise!
The meals were truly beyond delicious: an amazing skate’s wing with perfectly balanced vegetables for me and a great boeuf bourguignon for my partner who is still raving about it! The wines suggested by the Chef were so perfectly pairing our dishes. Although the portions were almost too big, we could not resist the dessert of the day: a fabulously looking lemon tart. Well just to give an idea: if we had decided not to get it, we would have missed the best ever tart: deliciously exquisite is the only description I could give it! We absolutely enjoyed this experience and will make sure to return on our next visit to Panglao. Thank you again Chef!

A bit late review but still relevant.
We came to the bistro for dinner. You need to get a confirmed reservation to proceed. Try to contact them thru their number or facebook page to get a confirmation incase you didnt get any.

That evening he had three tables and sir jhel was a one man show but he handled it almost flawlessly. The ambience was cozy and chill.

The food. Oh the food was an experience in itself. We tried the beef and lamb dishes with mashed potatoes. It was not just yummy. It’s full of life! It didnt just fill our stomach, it hit us to our soul. Not about being poetic but, my bf and I agreed with that. It beat even the fanciest food we tried in Cebu.

However, we encountered a little mishap with my bf’s nut allergy despite warning. Just minor forgivable human error esp in that case. Everything was ok since we always carry an anti-histamine. Sir Jhel was so apologetic and handled it professionally. He even checked on us when we went back to our accommodation at Bohol Bee Farm which fortunately very close.

To conclude, this place is a hidden gem! A must visit and must try whenever you’re in panglao. The food was truly unforgettable. I recommended it to my friends who will be coming to panglao and we will drop by for sure when we will be back to the island in the future.

I thought it would be a simple dinner out to celebrate my birthday, but it turned out to be so much more. The service at Heliconia Bistro was on par with a fine dining experience, complete with a personal touch. Jhel was exceptionally accommodating, personally taking, cooking, and preparing our orders.

The lamb chops were outstanding! All the dishes made me feel as though I was dining in a luxurious restaurant. I will definitely bring my friends and family here next time.

If I could give 10 stars it won’t be enough… this place is a gem in Panglao.
Make sure to pay a visit or many visits if you are staying in Panglao.

Gel, the owner, prepared for us a delicious, fresh and super tasty lunch cooking using all local produces. The grilled sting ray is a must to try, and also the delicious steak served with mashed potatoes and salad. Everything is cooked with care and love.

To finish we tried an unforgettable Ube Mousse with coconut, this was just incredibile.

The most beautiful thing, it’s that we had the pleasure to sit with Gel and get to know more about the area and its stories. We loved it so much!

It was our last day in the island and we could not wish for a better ending!

Thank you again for making our day a long lasting memory!

We had nothing less than a fantastic evening. From a warm welcome to great food and lovely talks with the owner. We really had an enjoyable night and would love to come again if ever we return to Bohol! Or meet up in Paris one day. Definitely a must visit bistro when you are in Panglao!

Wauw what a place!

We went here for lunch on a rainy day and were the only ones in the restaurant. The owner is super kind, friendly and chatty. It really felt like we were invited home to have lunch with him, so lovely! The food was amazing and it was clear that he only uses the best ingredients:)

My family and I had a delightful dining experience here at Heliconia Bistro, a French Asian fusion restaurant that prides itself in supporting the community by using local ingredients in their dishes.

The beef bourguignon and Indian butter chicken were standout dishes that highlighted the creativity and skills of chef Jhel! The beef bourguignon was tender and packed with rich flavors, while the Indian butter chicken was perfectly spiced and deliciously creamy.

My first time in Panglao, as soon as we arrived at our Airbnb I did a quick search on Google Maps and Heliconia was on of the nearest spots. After a quick review of what others had to say, I figured what the hell? The food looks elevated and the reviews seemed genuine. So we gave it a shot. Oh boy were they not wrong! Chef Jhel warmly welcomed us in, and gave us a quick speech about the restaurant and his background. Not claiming to be a “Chef” and that the food is just stuff he likes to eat. We had the Chicken salad and Butter Chicken. Everything was prepared from scratch and cooked to perfection. The chicken on the salad was grilled to perfection tender and greens fresh and crunchy. The butter chicken was perfectly spiced and the flatbread was soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Best meal I had so far since arriving in the PH in mid March. Chef is legit.

And the spot is aesthetically pleasing and clean.

Chef Jhel’s commitment to using only the freshest ingredients, reflected in a carefully curated menu that changes biweekly, ensured that each dish was a revelation. With just 2 starters, 5 main dishes, a charcuterie board and 2 desserts, the menu is a testament to quality over quantity. The Boeuf Bourguignon, a personal highlight, was a masterclass in flavor and tenderness, leaving everyone in awe of Jhel’s culinary expertise.

What truly made the evening memorable was the attention to detail—the timely wine suggestions, the sugar-free mango shake thoughtfully prepared for my daughter recalling her preference from a previous visit, and the overall execution of service. These gestures underscored a deep-seated passion for hospitality that is evidently the heartbeat of Heliconia Bistro.
