Awesome. Simply. I’m working my way through the menu and am having a hard time limiting myself to once a week (I ordered double today). The pork belly is amazing, tender and moist. The pulled pork sandwich with slaw melts in your mouth, and the “old school” burger was the best I’ve had in a lonnnnng time. May go back for dinner…

So sad…Helen’s is on it’s way to closing I’ve been able to go back and sample pretty much everything on the menu and it was all great, but I think he may have smoked his last rack of ribs. The building is sold so he opens here and there until construction starts with the new owners. I got some pork belly today on a lark as he just so happened to still be open when I drove by. So sad…

Exceptional all around. From the authentic sweet tea to the delicious side dishes, from deliciously crisp fried chicken with a cornflake crust (and some seriously HOT sauce) to the moist and juicy pulled pork and smoked chicken, all the way to the friendly staff and their well honed customer service skills, this place is awesome. For a soft opening I don’t think I’ve ever seen a restaurant operate as flawlessly as this one. I’ve tried too much of the menu in three days, but highlights include the funeral potatoes (a cheesy hashbrown casserole), the spot-on collard greens, that juicy cornflake chicken, and the smoked chicken with the Alabama style white barbecue sauce to provide an accompaniment of tanginess. You can’t get down to this place fast enough to try their food. AND they are beginning daily specials soon. Kudos to the team at Helen’s for bringing really excellent Southern cuisine to the Helena area.

An explosion of flavor in my mouth! Everything was absolutely delicious! My cornflake chicken was so moist on the inside and had a nice crunchy crust. I loved the pickled cukes and onions that were served on the side. The sauces had an authentic southern flare with a vinegar accent. It was hard to choose what sides to get because they all sounded so yummy! I had the root beer beans and funeral potatoes. Definitely a great choice.
I can’t wait to go back for more. Welcome to East Helena. We’re glad you’re here!

You won’t find brisket here! But you will find an amazing selection of Tennessee Style BBQ that will satisfy your tastebuds and leave your belly full. Chef Eric and his crew are great at what they do, and will show you the true meaning of Southern Hospitality!

Excellent flavors! By the time I got there they were almost out of everything, but I got the pulled pork sandwich along with the funeral taters, pasta salad, and the collard greens.
Everything was delicious. The pork was tender, and the side dishes were perfect.
Rumor has it that business is slow during the summer months, which may force Helen’s BBQ to close.
Please support our local restaurants.
This restaurant is worth the drive, but plan ahead. They’re hours are 11:30-3:30, so if you’re thinking dinner go get carry out and save for dinner time.
That’s what I did, and it was just right!

Just finished lunch from Helen’s BBQ and couldn’t wait to review. SO GOOD!!! The pulled pork was tender and delicious. The potato salad is excellent. The restaurant is extremely clean. And as far as the staff…”friendly” just doesn’t adequately describe them. They were downright joyful. The portions were larger than I expected and the price was extremely reasonable. Glad I found this place.

I’m happy to say this is an excellent BBQ restaurant. I have sampled many different items on the menu and they have all been excellent. No they don’t serve brisket. But who cares when everything else is so delicious? Try their pork belly with two sides preferably funeral potatoes and coleslaw. An excellent restaurant staffed and owned by people who really care about putting out a quality product. What more can you ask for?

1st time coming here. Got 2 pounds of pulled pork and a pound of ribs. The pulled pork was awesome and paired with thier sweet BBQ sauce, it was mighty tasty. The ribs were okay but kind of chewy, the rub was also not my taste. The coleslaw that came with it was pretty tasty. Overall a nice BBQ joint and they also offer a cash discount.

Really not certain why this had so many stars.
First, was really looking forward to brisket. How does a BBQ place not sell brisket?!
Next, had the Helen’s cornflake chicken. Horseradish sauce? Yuk. Peeled the crust off and the chicken portion was tiny.
I don’t do pork, probably great for those that like it.

Sides were great though.

Just fantastic eatery experience here.

To start with the ambience (light rock and mostly natural lighting) along with the interior decorating are on point. Lots of funny signs and vintage memorabilia decorate the walls. There are also classic pictures along with some of the proprietor/business lady Helen herself.

And of course the food. Love the menu names. I had the half rack with two sides – funeral taters (shredded taters bathed in delicious cheese) and hoodoo chips (on site made tato chips with some perfect seasoning). All tasty as all get out.

The only downside of the visit is that I forgot to take pictures! Now I guess I will have to go back. And you should give them a try!
