Friendly staff, great food, and big portions. A solid breakfast spot.
Their ukee chicken benedict is great (very tasty hot sauce).
However today’s special – steamed clams – was a bit disappointing…a heavy use of the arugula and tarragon was put in…making the broth and clams bitter.

My first time eating at Heartwoods was in 2023, and when the waitress brought the menu she asked if I’ve eaten there before, and when said no she explained the two most popular things ordered were Fried Chicken & French Toast and Fried Chicken Eggs Benny, so the Chicken & French Toast it was.
I’ve tried many variations of Fried Chicken with breakfasts in Vancouver and Victoria, but this one did it for me. Well of course the second visit was the Fried Chicken Egg Benny and that was just as delicious as my first dish. I do like to always add a side or with my order as well.
It’s now my favourite place for breakfast, and I love the atmosphere sitting at the bar watching the Chef’s building their signature dishes. And then there’s the coziness of the restaurant because it was once a longstanding home in the Ukee community before its transformation to date. There’s also a nice little patio out front and seating outside in the rear for a more private space.
During the summer months I recommend getting there early, as it is a very popular place and there will be a line for sure, and waiting when you’re hungry is brutal for me .
The staff and owners are magnificent and are truly passionate about what they do and put love into their creations.
I can only comment on the two breakfast orders, because that’s what I come for, but I have looked at the menu and have my eye on a couple other options.

Highly recommend Heartwood kitchen! My fiancé and I had a delicious breakfast here with attentive staff, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food. I got the French toast with the fruit topping on the side plus I got a side of smashedbrowns. My fiancé got eggs classic Benedict. The food arrived quick and was absolutely delicious. The eggs were perfect, the bacon was delicious, the smashed browns were to die for and the French toast was very well done! 10/10 breakfast and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy, affordable, delicious meal!

Very nice breakfast place that is warm and inviting, with exceptional attentive service cits clear that theccooks are professionally trained as their attention to detail in the food and the presentation is outstanding. We had the Heartwood breakfast and decaf coffee. The smashed potatoes were yummy, and the eggs were done just right. The fruit – apple, orange, and melon was fresh tasting. The protein was delicious. The toast was done just right. The place filled up very quickly but was a good vibe. Will definitely come back here.

If you’re in the area and find yourself waiting to get in, then please wait. It’s worth it, I promise. There’s a line up for a reason. The place is small and there isn’t enough seating, but the wait is worth it when you taste it. It’s a family owned and run restaurant and the care and attentiveness shows. My party and I tried several different dishes and neither of them disappointed. I loved the atmosphere created by the host and staff and the food definitely hit the spot. Thank you guys for a very pleasurable dining experience!

Visiting from out of town, got the chicken and bacon Benedict’s, super good! Servers were also really attentive and always making sure we’re doing ok. The place was a little chilly inside so maybe bundle up, but otherwise a really great experience

This review is a very long time coming! We live in Tofino and will travel to Ukee only to go to Heartwood for breakfast, it is genuinely the best breakfast you can find in either community. Our breakfasts here led us to hiring Chef Ian, his lovely wife Heather and their team to cater our wedding in September 2024. And it was the best decision we made, the food was incredible and dealing with Ian and all the logistics was seamless and easy. He was enthusiastic about all of our plans for food from a cocktail hour fresh oyster bar to the most insanely delicious chanterelle risotto, braised beef short rib and ridiculously good salmon and halibut dish. We also got married on an off grid island and Ian and his team took up the challenge with enthusiasm and professionalism, serving up an incredible feast for 110 guests. We couldn’t have asked for a better caterer, Ian is so talented, kind and amazing, we wish we could do it all over again. 100% recommend Heartwood for any of your catering needs!

The house hotsauce is the most flavourful sauce I’ve ever tried, not the most spicy, the most flavourful. It was so good it could be drank like juice from a bottle.
The chef is professional and plating dishes better then most Michelin chefs I have seen.
This resturant alone is worth the trip from Ontario here. We were finished and I was scraping the plate clean when they came to take them away!
The best brekfeast place in Canada hands down with no question. A must try for anyone able to make the trip.
