Reviews
The food was ok but the portions are like finger foods. I LOVED the crab cakes but portions sizes and quantity were disappointing. You only get two and they are really small lol. I ordered the shrimp scampi and while it was good it needed salt. I guess they don’t serve salt and pepper with meals because I noticed no shakers on the table. Unlike the crayons were. The shrimp scampi while it was good was too thick and creamy for my liking. I prefer a more looser pasta sauce. The cheese also seemed curdled.
I didn’t care for the waitress we had and I wished I had gotten her name as I like to have names for these reviews. There was another waitress there I would have loved to have. I watched her with customers and she was very helpful and upbeat. Very nice personality. Our waitress was very bland, not friendly, and aloof personality wise. She wasn’t really helpful when it came to asking for help with choosing entrees. Didn’t really explain well or seemed enthusiastic about helping. Her energy was definitely off. At least with us it was and even my husband commented on it lol.
What really pissed me off was my husband wanted a beer and she didn’t card him. At first I didn’t want alcohol but I overheard the friendly waitress mention a coffee type martini and I wanted to try one. I asked for the chocolate almond martini. In that moment I forgot I walked out of the house without my purse and ID. But she didn’t ask for my husband’s ID but asked for mine and when I said I didn’t have it I couldn’t get the drink. She asked her manager and the manager said no even to my husband offering a picture of my ID on his phone. My hair is literally colored so I would definitely match my ID. Some people just want to be difficult for no reason.
After that I lost my appetite and was turned off from the whole experience. I wanted to order their raspberry cheesecake and thought about getting it to go but the experience killed that desire and my husband asked for the check and we left. I get there’s the law but the point is be FAIR. If you are going to card one person then EVERYONE needs to be carded. Especially if it’s the same party. I’m a 40 year old married woman and I don’t look like a freaking child. I’ve looked young all my life. When I told the waitress I am turning 41 at the end of the month she says “to be fair if you never told me your age I would have thought you were 20 or 21. Also the law states “For the most compliant and safe service, staff should check the identification of anyone who appears to be under 21, or in some cases, even 27”. The waitress told me she thought I was 20 or 21 which are legal ages. She never stated she thought I looked under 20 or under 18. That’s a big difference because I clearly looked of age to her as my husband did.
I spoke with Erin the manager and explained everything and even she had a hard time trying to explain their side. She kept stuttering, would get quiet, and made nervous sounds while talking. She knew It sounded so ridiculous and selective so I get it lol. She also said it’s up to the waitress’s discretion on carding based off looks. Again they should want to be FAIR and card EVERYONE. There are under 20 and people in their 20s that can look old or even have gray hair. It’s just ridiculous and discriminatory.
Erin also could have handled the call better. She literally didn’t apologize until the call was over and after her many silly excuses. had it been me I would have immediately apologized and told the customer to come back up to the establishment with their ID and I would personally serve the martini of your choice to you that same day. But hey I get it some people lack customer service skills and common customer decency and just don’t care. What’s one unsatisfied customer mean.
Absolutely nothing to some managers.
We took dessert home it was boxed up nicely as well.
Florio Chicken Milanese.
When I say the food was amazing I mean the food was amazing! And most importantly to me, they handle multiple allergy with ease (tree nuts, gluten, and onion). We had a buffet setup, but those with gluten and onion where given separate plates. This is so amazing to me! I have had my tree nut allergy since I was a kid and have never felt so secure that I would not have a reaction. If you are still looking for a caterer I would strongly encourage you to reach out to them. My Husband and I had a great experience from start to finish. From the tasting to the day off. The staff was amazing, the communication throughout the whole process was phenomenal (shout out to Erin for that), and a shout out to Kim who was the manager on site the day of our wedding. She was the sweetest and rolled with our timeline that ended up going faster than we expected. I would absolutely recommend for catering. For how they handle that the in restaurants experience has to be phenomenal too.
We started with a bottle of the house red and a bottle of the house Pinot Grigio for the table. The Pinot Grigio was nice, and my mom liked it too . I didn’t try the red- I don’t like red wine in general.
We split a couple apps amongst the group, both of which were super tasty:
SPINACH & ARTICHOKE DIP (served in bread bowl • cream cheese • red peppers• bacon • cheddar • hacienda tortilla chips)
GOAT CHEESE FRITTER (San Marzano tomato sauce • garlic cream • cellophane basil)• focaccia
One thing I’ll say about the apps is that in a lot of places, they don’t give you enough bread or chips to accompany the dip, but here, they did! Quite satisfactory!!
These were the entrees we ordered:
WIENERSCHNITZEL A LA HOLSTEIN
thinly pounded breaded veal • sunny side up egg – lemon caper butter • potato gratin • sweet & sour red cabbage (I was told it was delicious).
JALAPENO PINEAPPLE BURGER
house-ground beef patty • shaved ham • smoked blue cheese spread • grilled pineapple • minced jalapeno • lettuce • tomato • peri peri frites (it looked amazing and it was HUGE! I was told that this was also awesome).
BRAISED BEEF BOURGUIGNON
Cabernet demi-glace • pearl onions – oyster mushrooms• Yukon potato purée – buttered carrots & green peas (Also heard this was great).
GRILLED WHITEFISH
Lake Michigan caught • pistachio gremolata • cauliflower
puree – roasted brussels sprouts • Nueske’s bacon (I had a bit of this and it was fantastic! Really the flavors on everything here were just right )
MOZZARELLA PANINO
pulled burrata mozzarella • provolone • basil pesto • balsamic
glazed tomatoes • fresh basil • herbed focaccia – deli chips (it looked amazing and I was told that it was scrumptious).
BAKED MANICOTTI
San Marzano tomato sauce • garlic cream • blend ofmozzarella & Provolone (I ordered this and was quite pleased. One other person at our table also ordered it and she loved it too.)
We also got the Warm French Toast
Bread Pudding -cream cheese filling, brown sugar cinnamon sugar swirl, vanilla bean ice cream, maple syrup drizzle- and I was obsessed, as you can see from my many photos .
Overall, I had a great visit, and will definitely return if I’m in the area.
