We had a delightful dinner at Hayashi Japanese Restaurant. The food was fresh and flavorful, though portions were on the smaller side. Service stood out as exceptionally friendly and polite.
Parking proved challenging—we circled blocks before parking far away on the next street, which felt frustrating after a long day.
This spot has strong potential and would thrive with a modern refresh to its worn decor and furnishings, to suit local demographic.

Great flavour in food, delicious. Would I go again? No. A bit overpriced as it was 32 dollars for katsu chicken with no meat and no rice. Other items were also highly priced like 45 dollars wagyu, which I found quite dry. Good eat for a one time but would not recommend for the price and quality of food.

Amazing Japanese restaurant in Perth! The owner is super welcoming and served us specially ordered oysters that were incredibly fresh and sweet! The scallops were light and refreshing, and every dish was spot-on. The staff’s warm smiles and friendly service made us feel right at home. Can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Perth! Highly recommend!

We knew about the more recent reviews going in i.e. terrible service, long wait times but good food and we have to say that they were 100% correct.

We arrived and two of the waitresses saw us and ignored us – this was 8pm so they weren’t going to receive many more customers (one even cleaned after noticing us despite only two tables being dirty???). Thankfully I knew about the other reviews that waited 30 min for seating so I just asked if I could sit down anywhere and they obliged.

We ordered four dishes and two came out relatively quickly so we were hopeful. But then after waiting 30 min for the other two and they begun to close up, it was clear they forgot about them. We asked and one was even sold out when we ordered so clearly some miscommunication between staff. We just left without having the rest of the food as it was getting late.

This is all a shame because the two dishes we did get were great. The salmon tasting platter was quite nice, with the charred salmon sushi being beautifully smoky and rich. The wagyu tenderloin was slightly overcooked but still tender and the veggies and sauce were amazing. My only other positive was the smooth tunes on the music playlist.

It really is a shame, the food is totally let down by poor service (except for the Filipina waitress who smiled and was attentive) and clear miscommunication between waitresses and the kitchen. I really hope management gets their act together and redeems the place as the food is actually good.

Overall, too expensive to really dine here for what they offer. Just wondering if they increased the prices to offset the huge voucher discounts they were giving online, but I might be wrong. Bill came up to $200 for 6 dishes. Extremely expensive for the portion sizes and quality but wait time was okay. Recent bad reviews somewhat justifiable, can’t say ill be back.

Karaage chicken ($16 for 4 pcs): was very well done and fried we.

Agedashi Tofu ($16 for 3pcs): I can’t wrap my head around how 3 pcs of tofu can cost that much, or cost as much as 4pcs of chicken?

Wagyu Beef ($56 for 150gms): Very expensive, okay quality. 150 grams were like 7 or 8 slices. Basically the same teriyaki sauce on the other dishes.

Beef Tenderloin ($38 for 150gms): Beef Cubes in the same teriyaki sauce as above. More enjoyable than the wagyu

California Roll ($28 for 8pcs): Very standard Sushi Roll, also very expensive for something very average.

Salmon Tasting Plate ($38): Sashimi is nice and fresh, good quality.

Leaving an excellent review because recent reviews have been negative and we feel it is very unfair on the business!

We ordered: 1) Ehire, 2) kingfish crudo, 3) crispy salmon roll (roll of the day), 4) soba noodles and 5) beef tenderloin.

We arrived at 6pm on a Thursday and were seated promptly despite not having a reservation. Our order was taken on time and food came out shortly afterwards.

All the food was delicious, especially the beef tenderloin (very tender) and the ehire (which we had no idea what it was before ordering).

All in all, a great experience to celebrate a nice occasion and we hope to be back soon!

We visited Hayashi about a year ago and had a great experience with both the food and service, which is why we decided to come back. Unfortunately, today’s visit was quite disappointing and has made us decide not to return or recommend it.

When we walked in, there were three staff members moving around the restaurant. Even though they walked past us several times, no one acknowledged us for about five minutes. Eventually we were told we were supposed to add our name to the waitlist ourselves. There was no sign indicating this and no one informed us when we entered.

At the time, there were clearly two empty tables for two people, but we were still asked to add our name to the list behind two groups of six and a group of three. Those larger tables still needed to be cleaned. When I pointed out that the two-person tables were already clean and available, they then said we could sit there as they didn’t see it themselves.

We were keen to try the salmon but were told it was sold out. The chicken karaage was good, but the teriyaki beef and chicken were quite average. I asked if the beef was well done and the waiter took it back to the kitchen to check. In the meantime my rice became cold, and it took another 5–10 minutes before they came back to confirm it was well done. It was busy and a long wait for the entree to arrive – more than 30 minutes.

The lettuce that came with the meal had no dressing, which was a bit disappointing. We were also told water would be brought to the table, but it never arrived during the meal. When our entrée came, they asked how many sets of cutlery we needed and we said two, but another waiter brought only one, so we had to wait again for the second set.

The staff did apologise several times for the delays, which we appreciated, but the service issues throughout the meal were still frustrating. For the long waits, inconsistent service and fairly average food, it was paying $101 in total and I believe was asked on the touch pad if I wanted to add a tip.

I went with high hopes and a hungry belly because the restaurant seemed promising in photos.

After a 30min queue, 30min desperate attempt to order during which I got blatantly ignored 5 times, and a 1h wait for the food to arrive, I finally got my food.

Except my appetiser, which came last.

The steak was the best of the lot. The chef special grilled kingfish was appalling, 2 tiny thinly sliced pieces of rock hard fish on a banana leaf that you can’t even eat and no side dishes? Unless you’re anorexic, that’s not a main dish. It was even served on a small side dish plate.

And the tamago.. overcooked and tasteless.

The only thing we enjoyed was the sake tasting paddle. Which probably wasn’t made in house.

Being charged $111 for that was a complete rip off. We went to Maccas afterwards to have a proper dinner.

The management would also do well to hire more than 1 junior waitress and 1 senior waitress/cashier/floor manager/bartender/ice cream scooper for a bustling full house. They’re obviously understaffed by a mile.

nice? yes. would come again? not quickly. got tori karaage don bowl which claims to come with just cabbage but turns out it’s the whole salad. skipped tomatoes because i’m not a fan. but that also means an extra $6 just for miso soup and pickles is absurd… the rice bowl is already $16 and i feel as though elsewhere is better for less.

the ambience is very pleasant. nothing annoying playing on spotify in the background. they also served ice cold water which was very kind in this weather.

Service was very slow. We waited 30min for our table and another 40min for the the first plate -mixed sashimi – to come. The rest of our food took longer. And they kept sending us food that we didn’t order. The restaurant oversold their 40% off vouchers on EatClub so the place was packed. But they didn’t have enough staff to handle a full house. It’s a shame because the food was good. They are under new management and everything was chaotic. Definitely not coming back even with the voucher.
