I was in the area getting an inspection I went to Hawks BBQ while on my lunch break and boy was I starving!!! I called over the phone to order a two piece fish and fries. When I got inside I smelled fish but just like any seafood store you smell seafood. I got my food and got in my car almost to work and I work in short pump . I opened my bag and my box of food, reached for some French fries, and My fish was spoiled! It wreaked so bad I knew it was spoil and when I broke into it to see what it looked liked the meat was a light brown color not white. $15 lost but I will never go back. I can say it was fried hard and hot but SPOILED SMH

Omg, I went there today after work hungry, I order a wing dinner with potatoes salad and an extra side of collards. I asked the ladies if the potatoe salad was homemade she said yea….. I got my order tried some in the car and was DISAPPOINTED!!! Both potato salad and collards were NOT HOMEMADE! The chicken was not seasoned.. I mean for 25$ I was mad! I had to go back in and tell them about them.. I will never go back again

I recently moved here from AZ. Me and mother heard good things about this location but were deeply disappointed. The woman who ordered before us gave the cashier/manager a hard time… Yelled and cursed at her regarding the restaurant being filled with smoke from the kitchen. In no way was that horrible customer right for being rude to the manager. Long story short the woman before her got her so mad and OFF she had no patience to take our order. Being our first time in the restaurant my mother simply wanted to know how the fish was cut and the size. The manager took her anger out on my mother and refused to answer her question. We never yelled at woman working, my mother even apologized when she began to escalate her frustration on us and deny service. It was very upsetting to be denied food when we drove out our way, but also tried to be patient and kind. I get some customers can rude and disrespectful, but don’t take it out in other people because your mad and OFF.
I wouldn’t return to this location. The manager was very rude and can’t direct her emotions properly. If the previous customer got her off so bad she should’ve simply stayed in the back and had someone else take our order. I work in customer service. It may be hard to move on when you have conflict, but that never gives you the right to be mean and nasty to the next person.

As a kid, I always went to the Petersburg location with my grandma until they closed. Yesterday I stopped at the Southside location because I recognized the name. After 20 years, I can say the fish, fries, and bread taste exactly as I remember! The food was great and the customer service was very welcoming. Definitely a hidden gem!

Don’t waste your time. The fish was awful, unseasoned and cooked in old grease. The potato salad was overly sweet and greens were overly salty with a burnt taste. I paid $65 for this meal only to just throw it all away because it was just that bad. I went to the Southside location because it was closer to me. Next time I will just take the drive and go to Sugar’s Crab Shack as I normally do when I want fish.

Came in on my cheat day looking to support black business and my sugar craving I was looking honestly for some red velvet cake they have a nice selection of cakes strawberry chocolate German chocolate lemon and a crowd favorite and special menu item coconut pineapple… let me tell you that cake was so moist you could the batter was sifted thoroughly the coconut was smooth and rich the pineapple was sweet and savory definitely my favorite will be going back Friday when that direct deposit hit I highly recommend giving this place a visit and if anyone ask you just tell them you still have some soap leftover from the last time

Sadly whoever was answering the phones around 430 pm has no customer service skills. Never said hello when I called the first time. Claimed she called back and then when I did get her on the line she was SCREAMING hello. I told her the first time I called I was hung up on and she told me to watch my attitude when she answered yelling she could hear me now and proceeded to hang up AGAIN after I asked if she was going to argue with me or take my order. Rude, and dirty establishment. Wouldn’t recommend to a dog after this experience

Each time I eat that fish I feel sick afterwards. Its seasoned very well and cooked nicely, but they use old grease. Moreover, I don’t mind paying for quality food, but almost $10 dollars for 3 thin pieces of fish is too much.

The food was perfect. I asked for the fish to be soft. It was golden brown, fresh, perfect. We got an abundance of fries, and if you have a sweet tooth, you can’t do better in terms of taste and portion. This trip we purchased coconut cake and french apple pie. They were out of cocolate, and if you have had it, you understand why.
