Reviews
View was simple, but nice. A street-level restaurant overlooking boats in a marina. Area was clean and bright and the waitstaff were genuinely cheerful and helpful—there when needed without hovering.
Tables around us were eating burgers and tomahawk steaks, and I’m sure they were also great, but this is Hawai’i. If there’s any time to order the fish, it’s here; especially at Havens. My only complaint was that the remaining dinners on our trip became less enjoyable since they didn’t live up to the amazing flavors of Havens.
ATMOSPHERE:
They’ve taken over the former Beach Bums spot on the lower level. It’s a spacious, open air eatery with a lively beach house vibe and has great views of the harbor and Haleakala.
RESERVATIONS:
Recommended as they were pretty busy on this particular Sunday night.
PARKING:
Free for kama’aina but a fee for everyone else. After 5pm it’s free for all.
DINNER MENU:
American & Italian.
BEVERAGE:
La Perouse
I’m guessing this is their version of a mule, which while tasty, didn’t have a strong fizziness from the ginger beer.
FOOD:
Brussels Sprouts
I normally wouldn’t order this common app but it sounded good tonight, and tasted even better than I had imagined. No drizzle or sauce needed with its trifecta of sweet, savory and char flavors.
Chelsea Farm Clams
The delicate, savory broth was heavenly, with added smokiness from the Portuguese sausage slivers.
Garlic Butter Fries
Nom! The world’s best fries have been crowned.
Local Romaine Caesar
A baby romaine caesar is few and far between nowadays. This version sported a more tangy dressing with light creaminess.
Crispy Kanpachi Roll
I’m not a sushi fan but this was insanely good. The rice to filling ratio was perfect as well.
Local Style Mahi
No kanpachi was available so mahi it was. Whenever I see fish done in a shoyu broth, it’s an automatic order for me. I was surprised at the plating as the fish was presented in a bowl. But, it was necessary as the fish sat in a pool of the gingery, savory and tart broth, topped with sea asparagus (sea beans) and ogo (seaweed).
House-made Rigatoni
The bite I had was very tasty and the homemade pasta was cooked perfectly.
SERVICE:
My only gripe was the food delivery timing as the entrées came out while we were still enjoying the apps which crowded the table.
Male server was okay and checked on us once.
OVERALL:
Average pricing, flavorful everything, good portion sizes. Highly recommended!
My husband had the ahi tataki and was thoroughly impressed. The ahi was super fresh and the sauce had just the right amount of heat with a beautiful depth of flavor. Absolutely excellent.
For my main entree, I had the Colorado Lamb Chops. They were prepared with a marcona almond crust and paired with fabulous caramelized Maui onion potato purée. The date chutney added so much to the lamb chops, I just couldn’t stop saying, wow!
My husband is a self described scallop connoisseur. In most fine dining restaurants, if scallops are on the menu, he orders them. He has had this exact preparation before at Havens, as it was recommended by another one of their excellent servers. Not only did it not disappoint, he proclaimed these are consistently the BEST scallops he’s ever had. PERIOD. BAR NONE. And, he is comparing these to scallop dishes he’s had at Per Se, The French Laundry, Herb & Wood, Huso, La Mar (Lima), Osaka (Lima) and many more fine dining juggernauts. He’s throwing out these names to hopefully impress upon anyone reading this how magical this dish is.
We finished with one of each of the desserts. While both were excellent, the lilikoi vanilla bean meringue tart was the star of the show. A perfect way to wrap up a perfect Christmas Eve celebration.
While Haven’s is a 20-30+ minute drive for people coming from Wailea, West Maui or Paia, it is absolutely worth it! Hence them winning the 2025 ‘Aipono Awards Best New Restaurant on Maui and Chef of the Year for Chef Zach Sato. By the way, we’re going back for NYE. Can’t wait!
It is a great place, great location with patio seating snd indoor seating. The views from the patio seating and the hugh top tables were great.
We did walk in and it was hit or miss. They said they were very busy with “big parties”. We did get a high top by the bar. It was INCREDIBLY noisy. It was fine becuase we did not have reservations. We knew we would be limited.
We did not get placesettings without asking. No water without asking.
Server was great. Knew the menu and offered great recommendations. We got our appetizers (waygu croquettes) before getting any place setting or silverware. We also had to ask for salt and pepper but it was fresh ground so that made up for it. The manager was super friendly abd nice and seemed to be paying attention to us and the other high tops near us. She was
There was a LONG wait between appetizer and meals. My hubs got the waygu filet and it was amazing. I did the red prawn malfedine, which was great! Noodles made in house. The food was great and tasted phenomenal. It is per course pricing and we did not see a kids menu. There is a bar and a large liquor list. I got a strawberry lemonade that was okay.
We had to ask for refills on water. The server seemed more interested in the men at the bar.
It is paid parking at the harbor. But we knew that as well. It was somewhat hard to find a spot on a Monday evening.
My recommendations:
Ambience 4/5…very noisy. We couldn’t hear each other. Maybe install some sound proofing on the ceiling.
Service 3/5…this is where I was disappointed with the slowness and having to ask for things. Management please have the employees pay attention to details. It is what matters. Anticipating customers needs goes a LONG way.
Food 5/5….it was great! Taste was awesome. The menu seemed somewhat limited.
Pricing 3/5…was somewhat overpriced but I get it it is Hawaii.
I would recommend for adults, I would not take children here.
Keep up the great work we will be back!!
Tourist trap??? Maybe, but we won’t be back.
The atmosphere is a standout, with a beautiful view of the harbor at sunset that really elevates the experience.
Service was excellent — the staff is friendly and attentive, checking in often. The only small suggestion there is to give guests a bit more space between check-ins, as too many can interrupt the flow of conversation between guests.
The drink selection was solid. Cocktails and wines were well chosen, and I really liked the beer selection — a nice change from the usual big-brand lineup. I’d still love to see more non-alcoholic options added down the line.
If I had one other note, it’s that prices feel a bit high for a newer restaurant, especially compared to some well-established spots on Maui. That said, the quality is clear, and Haven’s has real potential. Wishing the team all the best — I’m looking forward to seeing how they grow.
