I am reposting this because my previous review was removed.
These people have no idea how to cook chicken. The server provided zero service; after dropping off the food, they never came back to check on us once. To make matters worse, the rice tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time, and the chicken was served undercooked.
Since I was there with my child, I was especially concerned and couldn’t let them eat it. I couldn’t eat it either, so we just ended up leaving.
I honestly don’t understand why the reviews here are so positive. I am leaving this so others don’t get tricked and regret it like I did.

Quick lunch visit during work, first time and it was great. We go the Hat Yai for 2.Nice portion size for lunch and it wasn’t overly crowded. Pretty cool atmosphere and he staff was very helpful. We sat at the high top area, which was perfect for our time there. The curry sauce went well with the sticky rice, it had such a good flavor. The fried chicken was good on it’s own, but we I added on the chili sauce it was a lot better. Just a little bit of a kick, but not much, and the spices were delicious. I’m interested in returning to try some of the other options.

I can’t believe it took me so long to come here – this meal was INCREDIBLE. I love how straightforward the menu is – making it super easy to pick. I got their Hat Yai Iced Coffee – super cool flavors but they definitely are on the sweeter side, so you may need to ask for a heavier coffee pour if you need a caffeine boost. Since it was my first time here I decided to stick to what they’re known for so I got their Fried Chicken Set. Every individual item on the plate was incredible and unique and then you start combining bites and your mind is blown even further.

My wife and our son Was trying to figure out where we’re gonna go for dinner after a little shopping around they decided on this place. It was close to home. Our first visit. We ordered the chicken wings curry very very good. Chicken was excellent one of the best margaritas that we’ve had.

Hat Yai has very generous portions with a great selection. Their fried chicken is great. But they have many different sets that let you get different curries, rottis, and other signature dishes. For your first time definitely get the fried chicken entree set and add a wing. It will come with a curry, delicious fried chicken, and great pickled veggies. If you don’t want fried chicken they have many other options too.
The fried chicken is moist, crunchy, with a light and herby batter. It comes with a tangy dipping sauce. This fried chicken is not heavy at all.
There is street parking in the area. Expect to pay $16~24 (not including drinks). You order at the front then they bring the food out.

I’ve had Thai food in many different cities across the U.S., and overall, I think Thai cuisine tends to be one of the most consistent and satisfying Asian food options here. That said, this particular restaurant didn’t quite meet my expectations.
I visited after seeing a glowing recommendation from a blogger, but I have to say — some influencer reviews might be a bit too generous. The flavors here were underwhelming, and not quite as impressive as advertised. I even saw two people filming content while I was dining, which made me wonder if the hype was a bit overblown.
The oxtail soup was the biggest disappointment — I honestly couldn’t tell if I was drinking soup or straight vinegar.
Their signature curry also let me down. It tasted heavily of Mae Ploy curry paste with canned coconut milk, and there weren’t any fresh ingredients like meat or vegetables. Just a few fried shallots on top. It felt like something made entirely from premade sauces. To be honest, I’ve made better curry at home with fresher ingredients.
That said, the prices were quite reasonable, so if you’re just looking for a quick Thai meal that won’t break the bank, it’s not the worst choice. Also, one of the servers had great energy and a unique sense of style — definitely added a bit of charm to the experience.

Casual spot. Order inside and find a table. Enjoyed a nice evening outside and the food came reasonably soon. It had a good amount of heat in the vegetarian curry. A few fun drink options and beer and wine. Pretty good overall Thai food in a relaxed and casual setting.

WOW. Incredible. Spicy pork has the heat and format of pad prihk king but with the flavor and veggies of a more laotian sausage. Really appreciate that it only comes in “thai hot” on the website (its US 5 but not actual thai hot, right call IMO). The pad thai is enclosed in the egg in a cool way. Curry and chicken were great, with a lot of unexpected cinnamon. All 3 dishes had a well developed “dark” flavor, deep and sweet and noticeably beyond what you get from most thai places. Will definitely be back.

Thai the most Portland way. It is a staple of the city and questionably some of the best chicken. The curry is amazing. Do yourself a favor and grab the Hat Yai combo – everything pairs perfectly together.

The fried chicken is good. The shrimp mushroom soup and sea bass special were both too sweet for my taste
