I’ve been visiting this Hartz chicken since 2004. The chicken and gizzards used to be excellent. Lately, I’ve noticed some inconsistency in the food quality. Sometimes it’s good, other times not so much. But on November 29, 2025, I experienced the worst baked chicken from Hartz. It lacked any seasoning, the skin was tough, and since it’s baked chicken, it shouldn’t be. The drumstick was nearly the size of a turkey leg—never seen one so large. It felt like it was pumped with hormones or something. The food was TERRIBLE, and I won’t be returning to this Hartz on Uvalde Rd in Northshore until they improve. I’ll go to another Hartz nearby in Baytown.

They close at 7pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends so arriving an hour before they closed probably didn’t help since they had a limited selection of only fried chicken, tenders and baked chicken. The sides selection were your basic fare and bad. Everything else including service was pretty good. Great place to feed the kids if you’re on a budget but a better & fresh selection if you arrive earlier.

Man, I went through the drive through like around 6:24pm. Couldn’t get a receipt but the drive through lady mentioned she was out of receipt paper. Okay I order a family meal ,12 piece large 3 sides, And 6 rolls. My 3 sides were mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and fried okra. Fried chicken and okra were great. I didn’t know I had to specify mashed potatoes and gravy. I figured it was common to get mashed potatoes with gravey, but no. Got to specify mash, and gravey. The Mac and cheese was just so god awful, like it tasted like runny pasta water with a hint of spoiled milk or cheese. Idk truely disappointing. They forgot the 6 rolls, and gave me a ton of wings instead of like actual legs and thighs. Would I come back? Yes, but just for chicken tenders or the hot wings, but anything else seems to be garbage. Like, I understand everyone needs a job, but whoever is cooking this stuff has no business making macaroni and cheese. I’m afraid to even try the buffet, it’s been years since stepping foot in the place. It holds memories, but it can’t keep up with what it once was. I see this place shutting down within the next few years if not sooner. They had a great run, but poor management. Workers who just lack the common sense to try their own cooking for once. Where’s Gordan Rhamsey when you need him?

This was my first time coming to Hartz, the staff was very friendly and courteous. I had ordered the 2 piece chicken meal to go and it was cooked very good. As I was waiting I was told about the buffet that it changes every day so what I took pictures of may not be there on the day that you go.

So I went here a bit over a week ago and it was warm inside. Not sure if the AC was on the fritz but the food was good and the staff seemed pleasant despite being on the warmest side of the building. Hopefully they can get it fixed soon I’d like to try them again after that 🙂

I live this place, the food is always delicious. They have comfort foods, fried, baked, salads, etc. The staff is so nice. Note: Some of the staff refers not be lived streamed on customer’s FB. Please be considerate of others. I ate here a few nights ago and they had liver and onions and let me just say, it tasted better than Luby’s and Golden Corral. It’s not always on the buffet but I wish it was. The bathrooms are always clean as is the dining area as well. They have so many choices that I believe anyone could find something here they would like. There is wheelchair accessible parking with a ramp. However, the door doesn’t have an automatic open, but everyone I’ve met here are cordial and I’m sure there would be someone to help you if you needed help. I don’t want to make them too good of a review or they’ll get busy…lol. Give it a try, food is great!

I can’t understand how a place can charger certain amount to serve cold food , not just cold the salar bar compared to Other locations have only lettuce ! Yes like if we are guinea pigs ! No tomato , the coleslaw tasted past due , corn bread has a terrible taste, rice is isntant precook rice and everything else feels canned . Oh you MUST pay for fries ??? They are just potatoes but they will sell it to you
