What a beautiful spot! The Hart and Crown Tavern has a wonderfully charming and rustic feel right in the heart of Maddison. We loved the decorating and the overall vibe of the place. We were seated right away, as it was very empty when we arrived.

The service started out great but unfortunately got slower and slower as our meal went on, which was a bit of a letdown.

For starters, we ordered the bread and the pork belly, and they were both fantastic. The real star was the BBQ chickpeas that came with the pork belly—what a pleasant surprise! For our mains, we had the wild boar carbonara and the fish and chips. Both were just okay and could have used a bit more flavor. A small note: the “chips” are seasoned potato wedges, not traditional fries. They were good, just not what we were expecting.
Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the atmosphere and appetizers.

Excellent dinner as their Fish & Chips may very well be the best I have ever had. From Sydney to San Francisco to New York, the Hart & Crown Tavern is a MUST STOP. The Haddock or Pollack was perfect, thick, moist, and with a splash of Vinegar and Lemon sang while I ate the Fish & Chip dish. My strawberry red leaf salad was delicious too. The restaurant is like a pub in Ireland. The inside feels so inviting and harmonious with the tavern feel. Madison ought to be very proud of this establishment. Go Dawgs!

We venture to Madison about once a year and always try to stop in here for a relaxing drink. I just love the homey/upscale pub atmosphere and they make an excellent half & half (black and tan). And the staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Last visit, it was raining like crazy so we decided to stay for dinner. Went with the recommended special, Salmon served with a Bulgar Risotto which was out of this world. Can’t wait to go back.

The worst service & management I’ve experienced in ages. We arrived at 3:30 and the manager sneered at us rather than greeted when we said we didn’t have a reservation & said that if we found a seat at the bar we could eat. Great! Two seats at the bar were open. The bartender said that food was paused until 4pm but we could have drinks. No problem. We ordered a round and dutifully waited. Then we heard from another couple at the bar that food was only going to be available at the bar at 5pm (why didn’t the bartender tell us? Who knows because although there are only 6 stools at the bar, she refused to make eye contact for us to even order another round). After closing out with the first bartender at 4pm and again indicating that we wanted a food menu as soon as it was ready and another round of drinks, it took more than 15 minutes to get the attention of the new bartender (the couple next to us was more agitated and finally got her attention). Another round of drinks in front of us and it is finally 5pm & they throw down a 3 course prix fix menu with no other option but to order an over $100 per person dinner. When our bar neighbours super politely and uber-Southernly pointed out to the manager that it might’ve been nice for him to let either couple know about the special menu when we met him checking in hours before, he again sneered and was really rude.
We drove an hour+ from Atlanta to visit Madison & the terrible treatment by the manager and poor service by multiple bartenders at this establishment put us off permanently. Do not waste your time or money on this place.
I’ve only been motivated to write google reviews a handful of times, generally for outstanding reasons. This place was outstandingly rude.

My daughter (who was starved) and I went to have dinner here Friday. We walked in behind a group of 3 who were being seated. Though the “manager” saw us, he walked right by us when returning to the front to address a mother and son behind us. Sadly, she had asked if we had been helped, and despite telling her we hadn’t, due to her clear superiority, she gladly took her place before us.
I asked the “manager” to be added to the list but this was met with a surly, condescending comment. I was ready to leave and never would have stayed had my daughter not been so hungry. As we watched him seat 2 other groups before saying we were “next”, it occurred to me that he had his own seating algorithm based on unknown, arbitrary guidelines existing only in is head.
Despite my frustration and my now lost appetite, we decided to sit at the bar. This is when I learned that the surly man was the “manager”. Unreal.
After finding seats at the bar, he never asked if we still wanted a table or cared to check on us. I can honestly say I’ve never been treated like that in any business, nor experienced anything that would rival it.
I spent $120 on drinks and a hamburger for my daughter and wish I hadn’t. The only bright spot was Tory, the bartender (I can’t give higher service rating because of him) who is the antithesis of the dreadful manager. I would customarily never pay good money to be treated like crap and given the foul mood he put me in, if he’s anywhere even close, I would never go back.

It’s ok. Rustic charm, friendly staff, bland uninspired food. We keep trying hoping it will improve but, alas, tough unseasoned sirloin (?) FOR $38? Pasta was over, bolognese needed flavor, depth, anything? And that was NOT a Basque cheesecake. Nice spot for a Guinness by the fire. Olivia and Nick are exceptional and their staff is excellent.

Popped in on a random Thursday night. No wait, plenty of tables open. Very cute spot, loved the vibe and service was good. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the friendly service and cool atmosphere.

I was here for dinner. I ordered the bread and butter, salmon with farro “risotto”, and the Brussel Sprouts.

Bread 2/5 generic sourdough loaf slices.
Salmon 2/5 was dry and over salted.
Farro 2/5 sauce gave velveeta vibes – nothing apple or miso about it. I did like the size and texture of the mushrooms.
Brussels 3.5/5 were good, but a little salty.

Ordered a burger and fries to go. Shoestring fries with the lemon aoli was great.

I don’t think I’ll be returning, i don’t visit the area often but they do have a good looking menu. Maybe I was there on an off night. 3/5.

We just came out of the restaurant and wanted to review this place. We’re here only for the day, but would be here regularly if we lived here. The cocktails were wonderful, both of our meals were amazing, the sticky toffee pudding was scrumptious. Still, the best part was the staff; the front end manager was friendly, attentive, and great at his job. Our waitress was wonderful. I only wished it was closer to where I lived. When we come back through, we’ll be back!

We stopped by for a nice dinner. We were seated promptly, and waited for someone to come take our order. A table of 4 was seated right beside us about 5 minutes after we were seated. They were waited on and served their drinks. We continued to wait for a few minutes for someone to acknowledge us… Unfortunately no one ever came by our table, so we left.
