These types of spots are a rarity these days. You have to appreciate them as they’re still around. Can’t beat carved meats with good sides, soup or salad and a old fashioned roll. Either for just yourself, a date or with family. You’ll check a lot of boxes here. Well I went for a pastrami and corned beef combo dinner. Comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and I chose sauteed mushrooms as my side. I also couldn’t say no to the milestrone. Pops had the prime rib dinner. Choices almost same but he had baked potatoes instead. This place is like traffic. Come during off times, smooth sailing, but during rush hour, this place can be packed with a long line.

Had the Brisket and Roast Beef, both were really big portions and the sides were good too. Food is great for it being cafeteria style and the price can’t be beat!

I love the stuffing, closest to my Grandmother’s. I tried the roast beef, wasn’t thrilled. It was cold by the time I walked to the table. I will never cheat on the turkey leg again. That is my go to, always.

I haven’t eaten here in years but it’s nice to see a local business thriving and still turning our great food and providing excellent service. I highly recommend the dinners because of the variety of options.
I haven’t tried any of their daily specials yet but most definitely will on our next trip out.
Plan to carpool or take a compact vehicle because parking can be a challenge during peak hours but service moves quickly and the staff makes sure tables are ready and available.

First time here and overall a great experience. It’s cafeteria style, which makes it easy to choose exactly what you want. I ordered the fried chicken and it was actually really good — crispy on the outside, juicy inside, not dry at all.
Portions are generous and the food feels like classic comfort food. The place does get busy, but service moves pretty efficiently.
Would definitely come back and try other dishes next time.

Most of my childhood friends moved out of San Francisco. Sometimes I have to go to where they are. The Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City is better. But since they live in Union City/San Leandro, we came here instead. Same great food. We ordered their Saturday Specials, 10 oz prime rib $29 x2 and a turkey enchilada $16. Everyone here is super nice. We had a small child with us and a staff person helped us carry a tray to our table. As for the food, it was a lot. The prime rib was served medium rare with au jus. This was delicious with the herb crust. My friend liked her turkey enchilada $16 and would get it again.
Somehow we still had room for some strawberry shortcake for to-go. My friend lined again at 7pm at which point wrapped around 2x. When he finally got to the cashier, she said next time, just come to the cashier if he was ordering dessert. We didn’t know that and didn’t want to cut anyone. But now we know. Great job everyone at Harry’s Hofbrau.

Step back into yesteryears at this old-school cafeteria, with expert carving stations (e.g. turkey, roast beef) reminiscent of Reno. Home-style, stick-to-your-bones daily specials (e.g Pot Roast and Egg Noodles), served with choice of vegetarian sides. A nod to Bavaria, with items such as sauerkraut and purple cabbage. Top everything with gravy. Extensive selection of pre-tossed salads and slaws.
An excellent option for budget-conscious families or paying Dutch amongst friends. Wood-paneled saloon immediately adjacent for pay-as-you-go bar.
An historic icon worth the novelty at the least.

Comfort food and one hell of a beer selection.. Like after 14 days of manic house cleaning, the food will calm you down and you can just sit for a while, surf the web, read a book, watch sports on the TVs. The beer selection is NOT to be ignored. Separate bar area and outdoor dining. Used to be a rotisserie
turkey in the window, but no more. Just a fake replica. Oh well. The food? Hofbrau fare, rotating menu, chicken, turkey, beef, prime rib, meat loaf, pork, dishes, lasagna, fish on Friday, mashed taters, multiple types of salads, lots of desserts, like tapioca, rice pudding, pie, ice cream, and of course, jello. Senior and kids meals. The portions are pretty good and sometimes downright generous. The evening crowd is pretty adult, although there are some kids. Lot of elderly come here as well. And did I mention the beer selection?? And I am truly sorry for the lack of pictures. I thought I had taken pictures but I just had this one shot of last night’s beef stew. Pretty damn good and huge. Beef stew over white rice. I took half of it home as leftovers.
11/5/25 Tonight a departure from chicken halves . Having the sausage lasagne with Caesar salad and partner the Parmesan crusted Salmon and pea salad. Also 8 oz of Waterman Brewing Company’s “Pineapple Express” Hazy IPA, a New England IPA. Eating in the bar area, watching hockey and yes that is a gas fireplace

I came here for a special family dinner because I wanted to show the kids what this place was like. I expected an empty parking. It was full. I expected an empty dining room, it was pretty full too. I expected it to be good, not great. I ordered the open face turkey sandwich and it was great. I expected to pay more than I wanted. I paid $140 for 6 people! I didn’t expect to run I to anyone. I ran I to my cousins.
Wow! A treasured institution for decades still thrives, still resonates, and is a wonderful place to gather with family and friends. I will be back!
