After seeing Harley’s Old Thyme Cafe recognized on a USA Today list highlighting notable diners in each state, I made a point to visit.

When I reference an “East Coast diner” here, I’m speaking more to the menu than the room itself. The decor leans firmly toward a local neighborhood cafe rather than chrome, neon, or nostalgia. The diner comparison comes from the food: familiar breakfast and lunch staples, hearty plates, and a menu that comfortably blends straight-up classics with country-fried preparations and touches of Tex-Mex. You’ll find everything from traditional favorites to chorizo and rancheros, giving the lineup more range than a standard breakfast cafe.

The food isn’t competing with the very best diners in the country, but it’s solid, satisfying, and filling. Portions are generous, and the pricing delivers real value for the amount of food you get, something that’s increasingly rare.

One detail worth calling out: this is the only breakfast cafe I’ve been to in Anchorage that serves a legitimately sized cup of coffee instead of the usual 8-ounce pour. That alone earns points, especially for anyone who values a proper morning coffee alongside a substantial meal.

Overall, if you’re looking for a dependable breakfast spot with a menu that channels diner sensibilities, generous portions, and strong value, Harley’s Old Thyme Cafe stands out as a reliable choice.

Wow!!

I haven’t been here in a very long time. Had Ranchero Skillet! Delicious doest say enough!!
Had enough heat i didn’t need to add any hot aauce!!

Other two plates belonged to Mike and his daughter and were the lite breakfast options.

It took a little extra time to get our meal compared to some other places, but definitely worth the wait!

Nice small restaurant. Looks family operated and is family friendly. There were lots of hot sauce options. The fruit was an added bonus. The sourdough pancakes were so good. No syrup was needed. And the reindeer sausage was OK. Good bacon and eggs. If you’re landing into Anchorage and looking for a low-key somewhat cozy breakfast this may do well for you. It’s in a smaller retail strip, with options within a short drive.

I took that first bite of the reindeer chorizo and it was heaven on earth. This place is amazing. Glad I decided to come. Portions are great and flavorful. We had chicken and eggs big momma and my dish. I haven’t even left the restaurant that’s how good it was that I had to write a review.

You just can’t beat this place. The brisket is on point. The eggs are perfect. All the small things you would usually only get for a much higher price.

I showed up and was seated right away the staff was very friendly, the place was clean. They serve breakfast all day and was reasonably priced with generous portions.i got a veggie omelet, it came with hashbrowns OR grits, a biscuit or toast. I had it with hashbrowns and a biscuit.
The biscuit was soft and delicious, portrayed were great and they provided a few pieces of fruit which was super fresh and sweet. I will definitely be coming back her again!

There is a place on 76th and Old Seward, it’s Harley’s Old Thyme Cafe!! I love breakfast here! Been here several times and this time leaving a good review as needed!!! Quick, great, & friendly service! Comfortable seating and the area is well kept! Great job team!

The food! Always outside of this world good!! Today I had fried steak fingers and my buddy had chicken fried steak. Both great portions and had us licking our lips!! They have several hot sauce options which I love! I am a Spanish guy!! Then the coffee mugs are a favorite. Large and in charge! They keep it full too. Good for a coffee addict like me! Come seek this place out and you will become a regular as well!

This is the best old school diner in Anchorage. Great service, pleasant atmosphere, and a call back to the many perfect diners I have eaten in over the past 60 years.

Have breakfast, order something with hash browns, remember every diner breakfast you have ever eaten and the people you ate it with.

Service is big deal for me it was seat yourself, everyone was friendly and seemed happy to be here. That’s nice to see.
Only reason not 5 star for food was gravy needs little more flavor. Otherwise it was delicious
Chicken fried steak was huge and I didn’t even get close to half. It was made from scratch. Side biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was so light and fluffy, wish I knew how to make these. Hash browns are just the way I like crunchy on outside. Eggs were perfect
Eggs Benedict were also delicious, seems like the muffin was homemade also nice and light.
EVERY tray that came out was HUGE next time we will share a dish and no coffee first maybe we’ll finish it.
