I had a party of 2 people. My partner requested chicken within his salad and they gave him a whole piece?? I ordered the Moonbow Ice cream for 5 dollars. It wasn’t worth it. It was a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a tiny waffle. We also ordered deep fried mushrooms but they tasted like the oil was burned, but my partner seemed to enjoy them fairly well. I believe the restaurant is mainly about the atmosphere than the food.

I am a salad fanatic and this salad was just *chefs kiss* amazing! The little cast iron the beer cheese came in was so cute and really brought together the vibe of the entire place. The waitress was so nice and the general manager (who walking the floor asking if everything was good) was really knowledgeable about the menu items. The drink was fantastic it was like a super fancy adult orange juice. We will definitely be back to try more things on the menu!

What they have done with this space is absolutely amazing! The inside appears to be very clean and I love the exposed brick- they have tried hard to keep the original charm with some modern attributes. If you visit in the fall like I did and they have it again- the Apple Beer they offered last fall was great. The fried pickles are AMAZING, when they had the crab cakes for the brunch- AMAZING (Wish they had some fish menu items)! Would love to see more cocktails have sprite substituted for Ale8 in some of the drinks (it’s actually very good!) They have tons of interesting events during the week and on weekends if you are visiting from out of town! The only downside I have is that they do not take carry out orders past lunch- or at least that was the policy last time I attempted to order to go (I have not been in several months so this could have changed) Other than that- 10/10! Make sure to stop by when you are in town!

Over the past few months, I have tried out the beer company several times- and it gets worse every time. I am not sure what has happened, but the food is just inconsistent, and the owner is extremely rude. For instance, when I have ordered the Chicken and Waffles- it has been served differently nearly every time, the chicken is burnt harder than a rock, and the waffle is soo greasy that when you press on it with a fork, grease comes running out. Half the time, it comes with whipped butter (as advertised in the menu description), and half the time, it doesn’t. Half the time, the fries are seasoned, and half the time, they aren’t. See the pattern? The first few weeks, the food was absolutely amazing, and so were the drinks- but now the food is pitiful. They lost the only good bartenders they had, and it seems as though they are facing the consequences of bad management and undervaluing good employees. If you are a tourist- AVOID- this place is overpriced, and you’ll get much better food and drinks right down the street at the Portal. I hope they are able to get their act together and get consistency back in the kitchen.

Lordy. What a place. So welcoming, so kind and so delicious. The fried pickles were especially amazing.

Fantastic place. The staff was on top of everything and super friendly. Ordered the hazy IPA, which was very good. My god though, the chicken and waffles are now the reason I live.

We stopped here on a recent weekend getaway. We always try to visit local breweries while traveling, so we were excited to find this one in Harlan. The decor / atmosphere is good and there’s lots of room. When we came in, it was pretty quiet, but seems like this would be a great place on a Friday or Saturday night. The house beers were really good, but the food was just OK (and pricey as others have mentioned). My husband ordered a burger ($15!) and it was the thinnest patty I’ve seen on a restaurant burger. I ordered a chicken bacon wrap, which lacked sauce and tasted burnt. The highlights for us were the beer and that they served the kids food (fair price and good portions) on a frisbee, which our daughter got to keep. I’d be open to trying this place one more time, but would probably stick to beer and apps.

Had to stay a night in Harlan for working out of town. Found this place, and as soon as my co worker and I walked in we had fun. The waitresses had awesome attitudes, the food was fantastic, and the drinks were great. We played trivia and met some really great people. Highly recommend the black mountain burger / pork rinds.

I normally hate leaving bad reviews but this place is BAD! For starters I am a larger, disabled person with back and neck issues and the chairs were too small and caused me a great deal of pain. The hostess took my wife’s drink order and completely ignored me. The appetizer (cheese bites) tasted exactly like I’ve had at fast food restaurants dozens of times for a fraction of the price. We both got burgers and they both tasted burnt and flavorless. It was obviously premade, frozen patties and the fries again tastes like they were straight out of a fast food restaurant. Also while we were sitting there I saw someone come out of the kitchen and walk by our table with a box that had the words “Pre-Cooked Bacon” on it. This was followed by several people with filthy kitchen mats. By the time we got home my wife was sick to her stomach. The $70 we paid for this awful meal just confirmed that we will never be back. The only reason I didn’t give this place 1 star is because my wife enjoyed her mixed drink and I enjoyed my pre-bottled beer.

I really wanted this place to be great and I was excited about it when it opened, but it is more style than substance. It was some of the lowest quality food I’ve had in years being pawned off as chef made pub faire. If you want to pay $12 or more for a Bubba burger and pre-frozen fries then do it. I won’t. This place will either improve in quality, go under, or the local trendies will prop it up regardless of poor quality just for the atmosphere and a place to drink down town.
