Reviews
Visited in early November of 2025 and had a rather average experience on a Sunday night here. To some extent, the suggestions of hype appears true but there are moments where the food is genuinely good.
What worked-
Their pork highlight, Butaniku No Shioyaki was well made and so was the miso shiru soup.
What was average –
The Harima special assorted Sushi platter. The cuts weren’t all fresh and their maki rolls could have been a lot better.
What was terrible-
Their Wasabi… Definitely not freshly grated and lacking any form of pungency. On complaining, the staff nodded their heads and then simply never turned up. Service was quite terrible and a lot of effort had to be made to get our order through the door. The bad part is… It wasn’t even a busy night.
Matsuri is hands down the best place in Bengaluru for a good Japanese meal. They may not be updating their menu or providing ambience options, but they serve their menu items well. This, supposedly, the oldest Japanese outlet in the city, have their task cut out.
However, the service was good.
We had ordered :
Webimayo – batter fried shrimps accompanied with mayo (great)
Spicy Tankan Maki – sushi roll slices served with wasabi sauce (delicious, worth it)
Tempura Nabeyaki Udon – soupy udon noodles (felt like noodles in hot water plus 2 small pieces of radish and 2 small pieces of chicken and nothing else)
Chicken Katsu Kare Rice – rice served with veg curry and fried chicken (similar to indian curry and rice, worth tasting)
Miso shiru – fish broth soup with miso paste
Shoyu Ramen – ramen in chicken broth (would pass on this one)
Tori no kosyou yaki – grilled chicken with skin in japanese sauce (this one was good, grilled chicken with subtle pepper taste)
Geso no karaage – deep fried squid (great)
I liked all the starters, but the main course like the udon noodles lacked the portion of vegetables and meat. If they relook into this it would definitely be a bang for the buck.
