Been here twice and the food is good. Today i got the fried catfish with slaw and black eyed peas. I loved the peas and slaw. The catfish was so, so good and didn’t need anything but a little hot sauce on each bite.

Huntsville and Madison, if 137 reasons are not enough for you to drive out to Decatur, here is the 138th reason that you should make the trek. The Hard Hat Cafe is family-owned and operated, plus they are 4 years old, which means if you do the math, they opened during Covid times. Which means they were feeding people and serving people during the time when nobody wanted to be around anyone else. If that’s not reason enough to frequent this place, then I don’t know what to tell you. As for the food, it is plentiful and good and homemade. This is the kind of place that people go for lunch, when they need a lunch that will give them energy and keep them full. People that do hard work eat lunch here. If a good lunch to you is a shot of wheatgrass and an air sandwich, you are not going to like this place. But if you need something that will fill you up and remind you of home, this is the perfect place! Parking in the back, shaded picnic table seating. Unfussy and good, kind of like the rest of Decatur.

Amazing!!!! Outstanding customer service and food! We had Chicken and Dressing, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, baked spaghetti, potato salad, cabbage, black eyed peas and corn bread. Everything was delicious and Martel is awesome! We will definitely be back!! If you are looking for a home cooked meal, Hard Hat Cafe is the place to go!!!

Cook also served. I asked for eggs over medium. Not many get it right. She did. Only reason for no 5 star is that surfaces were sticky: table top, salt and pepper shakers, napkin dispenser.

This is a nice place run by a mother and son. It’s nice to find places like this cause the appreciation for your business is genuine.
The food quality is good. Recipes made from experience not a corporate test kitchen. The greens were really good and so was the mashed potatoes. The corn bread was the only thing I felt was not up to par. The peach cobbler was really nice
The service was friendly. It was just two people so it’s not like a corporate restaurant but I didn’t have to wait around for anything.
The place is a little sparse on decor and character but for a family run operation it’s not too bad.
The menu changes regularly so you can enjoy different stuff. I felt like the prices were pretty good too. $12.99 for a plate. All in all it’s a nice little slice of southern Americana.

We will be back again! Small cafe ran by the sweetest people. Food was amazing. Best greens I’ve had in a long time. Chicken stuffing was like my mom used to make. Very generous portions.. Home cooked, you can taste the difference. Highly recommend. Side note they stop serving breakfast at 9:30 but the lunches more than made up for a lost breakfast.

Can’t rate the food because after waiting over an hour we did not get served. We were the only people dining in. Took 30 minutes after ordering to be told that what I wanted wasn’t available. We never got updates after that while others coming in after us got served their to-go orders quickly. Went to pay for the coffee so we could leave and get food elsewhere and was given a quick, dismissive apology with no remorse.
We love to support a small businesses but not when there’s a major lack of customer service and respect.

The food is excellent and the service is too!
We went for breakfast and ordered pancakes, smoked sausage, and bologna and they were the fluffiest pancakes I’ve ever had. The place is clean and I’d definitely like to go back for breakfast or lunch.
