The atmosphere is nice and dark, and I felt the pricing was competitive for the options in the area, with $28/person the base AYCE price. I felt this had more than enough options to satisfy, but there is an upgraded option. Bf and I got the best of both worlds broth, allowing myself the classic and bf the spicy.
There was a large, well stocked buffet bar full of ingredients, from vegetables to fish. I found most of it tasted slightly old, but not enough to put me off.
Our real complaint was service, being that my bf’s choice of lamb meat was forgotten for a long period of time before being brought.
Overall though, I would put this in the top of hot pot places we’ve visited for value and quality!
My main critique for the place is I wish the sauce bar layout was a little better. It’s pretty small and a lot of people are crammed in there trying to figure out what sauces they want.
Overall still a good experience especially for a big party. They took great care of us.
Leo, one of the waiters, did a great job getting us what we needed.
Food quality is much better than the location in Grand Prairie!
Service was a little slow because we came in during the afternoon slump, otherwise the staff were helpful and patient. No issues ordering meats or getting refills on broth or water, just took a little while to check out. We did use a groupon for $20 off and that was honestly very painless as well. They made it easy to redeem.
Restaurant itself is cozy and has pretty good noise isolation. Tables are a little small for the lots of extra plates so be prepared with your group to grab goodies for the hotpot as a team and stack the used plates to the side right away.
Before reopening with the buffet bar when everything was ordered through the waiter, there was still a level of quality in the food and service that was excellent. The broth was flavorful and the meat was fresh. The broth that I had tonight, the first time that I’ve visited since the buffet bar opened, was absolutely bland. The meat was also not of the same quality and the selection has been significantly reduced from their previous menu.
Their “buffet bar”, which looked nice aesthetically, was empty the entire time. My wife and I and the other patrons were constantly checking the buffet bar to see if the dishes and sides were replenished to no avail. The restaurant was hours away from closing so that was absolutely not an excuse. The sauce section was also dry and empty with no one refilling the entire time we were there. Completely unacceptable when the sauces are what complete the hot pot experience except there was no experience here. It was just everyone sitting staring at the buffet bar and then staring at each other in disbelief of what was going on, or lack thereof.
On top of all of this, my wife and I got very sick once we got home from the meat and vegetables cross contamination and improper cleaning. I question the cleanliness in the preparation of food in the kitchen after this experience.
I am so disappointed and disgusted of what Happy Lamb has become and highly advise anyone looking to dine here to completely avoid this place altogether and go enjoy an actual hot pot restaurant that values your experience, satisfaction and health.
