I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food here. We needed an early dinner, and I love a good grilled cheese. My mom had a hankering for a BLT, and we needed a place close to I-39, so Hancock Family Diner fit the bill. Once she looked at the menu more closely, she chose the Junior Club instead of the BLT (junior denoting the 2-bread option). She said it was delicious. I followed through with the grilled cheese – although there was nothing special about it, it was cooked perfectly, not too greasy, and very classic. I got onion rings, she got fries, and we split. Now, we had a choice between crinkle cut and fresh cut fries, and chose fresh cut. I’m so glad we did! Really fresh, great potato flavor, needed some salt but that allowed us to salt to taste. The onion rings were a great batter and sweet onions – honestly really great. Plus pickle spears that tasted possibly homemade. We skipped dessert but I was tempted to go full diner and have a slice of pie. Maybe next time! Place was pretty empty but definitely a throwback diner (and it was early). I’d go back, for sure.

What you order matters here. Don’t get the broiled cod. It was the most bland meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The only thing that had flavor was the coleslaw and that’s only because it wasn’t homemade. It’s pretty bad when coleslaw overwhelms the rest of the dish. Really overpriced as well. But the pistachio cream pie was excellent.
Breakfast is much better! The eggs, bacon, and pancakes were very good.

Tried it for the first time today and it was fantastic! The food was delicious and hot. The server did an amazing job accommodating our group of 8 during the lunch rush which was so appreciated! We are visiting family from out of state, but I can’t wait to return on our next visit! I’m so glad the little restaurant has been able to stay open under different management. We were huge fans of smileys so it’s great still having a dining option in town. My hope is that they continue to get good business and may be able to expand their hours. T

The fish and shrimp was not cooked all the way. And it had no flavor. The broiled fish had a tiny bit of paprika. The broiled shrimp had nothing! They should at least add something to give it some flavor. I am disappointed with this place. I’ve eaten here a few times, and it seems they always under cook everything. Even the hashbrowns weren’t really cooked when I had breakfast here a few weeks ago! I’m not sure if I’ll give this place another try.

Super clean diner with delicious food!! Their prices are very reasonable with great portion sizes!! All the staff was super friendly and very pleasant!! I had the reuben with fresh cut fries!! We will definitely be back!!

Went out for breakfast with a couple buddies, while we were walking in my one buddy was pulled aside and was told that when we pay a 80-100$ bill we MUST tip. Which we usually do but now after that we are on the edge of not returning. We love coming in but I think we were targeted and that’s not ok.

Went for a fish fry. I got baked cod. Absolutely sucked! The fish was cooked but had no seasoning. Was not cooked in butter. Just a piece of fish. I will not be going back.
