I’m convinced the chefs here are actually deep-sea diving in the kitchen because the fish is that fresh.
The presentation is wild—every single special roll comes on its own plate. Honestly, I felt like I should’ve been wearing a tuxedo and paying Manhattan prices. It’s got major NYC Michelin-star energy but in the middle of Bergen County.
A few things to know:
The sashimi is insane. Not just thin slices, but absolute units. They’re the biggest cuts I’ve ever seen—delicate, but they actually fill you up. And the menu has so many crazy creations that it’s an actual crisis trying to pick just one (they’re all divine).
It’s family-owned and you can really feel the warmth. It was so cold the night we went that the wind blew the door open and a ceiling tile literally fell out, but the staff is so amazing you don’t even care. They treat you like a long-lost cousin who finally came home for dinner.
If you want world-class Japanese food without the NYC tunnel traffic, stop reading this and just go.

Very very good Sushi. My Wife and a I visited Hanamo today and loved it. She likes sashimi and I like more of the extravagant rolls. She is hard to impress, but she loved it! I really enjoyed the X Más roll. The owner and his family are lovely. Go eat some great Sushi at Hanamo!

I have never had such fresh sushi and sashimi- this place is truly amazing. Normally sashimi makes me nauseous but the sashimi here is so high quality and delicious it melted in my mouth. The food looks beautiful- I highly recommend.
