Service started off strong—our server greeted us right away, walked us through the specials, and got us started quickly with drinks and small plates. There was a brief lull of about 15 minutes before she returned to take our full order, so pacing could be a bit smoother as they continue to settle in.
We ordered the oyster tasting flight and it was definitely a highlight. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and high quality. It would be even better if the flight came with labels so you can easily tell which variety is which, along with a few extra lemon wedges and basic seasonings like salt and pepper on the table.
The tuna nachos were another standout—super crisp chips and great flavor—though a little more sauce would make the dish even more balanced.
The lobster roll was tasty but leaned a bit heavy on butter, and the split-top bun didn’t hold together very well. A sturdier roll would really elevate the presentation. Fries were excellent and perfectly cooked.
My partner ordered the halibut special over garden vegetables. The flavor was great, but it was slightly overcooked and a bit dry, especially for the higher price point.
Unfortunately, key lime pie wasn’t available yet, so we weren’t able to try dessert.
Overall, the hospitality was genuine and attentive, with staff checking in regularly and an assistant manager stopping by, which was appreciated. With a few small tweaks, Half Shell has the potential to become a standout seafood spot. Just be prepared for upscale pricing.
Beautiful interior, professional wait staff, wonderfully curated wine list, delicious signature cocktails, and AMAZING food.
We had the tuna poke nachos to start with. SO GOOD! Fried wonton nacho chips with chunks of fresh tuna & avocado, topped with sliced jalapeños, Sriracha aioli, and unagi sauce.
Hubs had an oyster sampler from the raw bar. Fantastic selection. Served with a traditional mignonette, as well as a spicy Serrano pepper option.
Next up we had the Spicy Little Tails and the Rhode Island Style Calamari. Both were cooked to perfection – tender with a flavorful, light, crispy batter.
Lastly, we ordered the chilled lobster roll and a side of truffle fries. Neither disappointed. Split top bun filled with huge chunks of tender lobster – just like back home.
Hubs stuck with his usual drink, but I ventured into the signature cocktail menu and ordered the Sea Glass. Vodka, lime, and cucumber. Light & refreshing.
Definitely our new favorite for seafood in the Queen city!
Oysters were probably my highlight. Incredibly fresh.
Spiced Lobster tails and calamari are all fried well with a nice light sauce.
The drinks were all very well balanced.
And the key lime pie was wonderfully made. Most times at restaurants I find the crust to be too thick and or dry. This crust was just how I like it.
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Decor in here is stunning, can’t wait to come back when it’s summer and get to sit outside
