While staying nearby I came here for breakfast one morning. I selected this restaurant based on reviews I read, which were mostly positive. Service was nice here. The restaurant is a large, open space with a little bit of a mildew smell to it. I can see that it’s probably more popular later in the day for its large bar. Their breakfast menu has all the normal stuff, as well and several interesting and unique items.

I chose their Pungo, which is a breakfast bowl with a fried chicken thigh as the main item in it. It was made fresh and come out piping hot. It looked pretty good and tasted nice. The chicken’s batter didn’t have all the flavor I would have hoped for, but it was all still pretty good together overall and hot sauce helped too. Their coffee was really good and my server kept the cup full and hot for me.

Overall, nice place. I’d return.

It was an alright experience. The potatoes were perfect and the carnivore omelette filled me up. I loved whatever soft cheese was inside of it. The presentation of the Benedict was also nice.

Things that turned me off: the coffee flight was bland and tasteless, the waffles were soft and didn’t seem fresh, and the mandatory 18% tip added to each check. I’d like to control how much I’d like to tip. The price is a bit on the high side but not terribly unreasonable considering the location. Otherwise it seemed like an okay place to go to but this might be a one time deal for me.

Food was excellent. I had the Chesapeake Benedict…so creative and yummy!! And the mimosa flight was refreshing on a hot day and the perfect way to try several flavors (since I couldn’t make up my mind). Server and staff was very friendly and knowledgeable too!).

Nice spot for breakfast in downtown Norfolk. Portions were generous but not overwhelming. Good service and clean!

Great breakfast spot, with or without alcohol. We went right at opening and received friendly service and excellent food.

Do note that an 18% gratuity is added automatically, as it may not be obvious.

I dined here for breakfast and I had an amazing time! The food is truly amazing, the portion sizes are great, and the price is very reasonable! I cannot remember the name of our server, but she was the sweetest and most polite person I’ve met! She consistently came and checked upon us to make sure we had all that we need and our food was brought out in a timely manner! I overall recommend this place. It was also very chill in there and had a nice atmosphere!

In town for a festival and found this place when looking for brunch spots. We enjoyed our seasonal mimosa flight and island mimosa. My husband got the basic breakfast and I was adventurous and tried the crab and shrimp omelet. There was no issue substituting spinach in place of the green peppers. It was delicious, we’ll definitely be back. You should see their GIANT mimosa, it was a bit intimidating but I’m willing to try

We came here early in the morning for breakfast! It was great! The food was fantastic and waitresses was amazing. It was her Birthday, and yet she did an absolutely amazing job. The food was truly delicious. The drinks were great, fun and different. We will definitely be back, hopefully very soon.

Burrito says other than the drinks there is no reason to come. Service was absolutely terrible and they try to get you with 3% built in if you use a credit card and 18% gratuity also. It’s only posted on a tiny sign when you first walk in. Cash is king. The boozy coffee flight was delish with the cookies and cream being my fav. Chicken biscuit was lack luster and the biscuit was dry. The side truffle Mac was the winner of the plate. Dumpling says the boozy coffees are good and the menu was interesting, but the food was nothing special upon arrival. Service was the worst we’ve experienced in a long time, picture uncleared dishes, no silverware when the food came (we had to ask another passing server for it), drinks were refilled once for some of us and then never again, had to ask for napkins… it wasn’t that busy. It was just bad. Table was also served in parts and Chicken Nuggie was left waiting another 10 minutes before his French toast came. We also ordered an appetizer that never came, but we waited so long for the mains, we kind of forgot about it until we started writing this review. Although, we were charged for it, a Sticky Chicken Waffle Cone, we now realize in review of the charges. We would skip it in the future in favor of other places. We would not ever go again.

The Hood
Well this was a hard one for The Hood. It started out ok they didn’t seem that busy but we were told 20 minutes. After we were seated it took a while for anyone to come around actually gave us enough time to order our drinks and what we wanted to eat. So let’s start off with atmosphere- nice some outside seats on the street inside nice and well that’s it for that. Food – not bad The Hood had a sweet chili chicken sandwich with some fries tasty it was. My peeps had other dishes and all said it was good. Buffalo chicken sandwich and steak and eggs for the peeps overall good stuff. Well now let me get to service – I will start off to say our waitress was good seemed very busy but did check on us and had a good attitude. Now here is where it gets juicy so one of my peeps didn’t get their food with ours and they order a specialty drink also none of it came out. Couldn’t find our waitress so we got the hostess and mentioned it and she stood there with a blank stare and then another waitress came up and said that we were waiting on the steak, must have had to go to farm to get it and then proceeded to tell us that the bar was backed up with drink orders for our drink. Well that apparently was not the case our original waitress came around the corner and apologized for forgetting to put the drink in and meal…. Oh O!!! So my peep thanked her for her honesty but told her she should tell the other waitress not to lie to paying customers. The Hood says be honest… well there you go food and drink finally arrived after everyone else was served for a while. So I say to hair of the dog tell your waitresses to be honest most people will understand. I said most people. Go if you like but the Hood will stay away for awhile. Be kind with each other! The Hood is off again for another food adventure!! Remember follow the Hood for great adventures! And no that wasn’t the drinks in the picture that they lied about.
