Bottom Line Up Front:
The Habit Burger & Grill is a satisfying (if flawed) step up from Mickey D’s.

The Context:
In the fast food world, I consider the Habit the “in-between” — it’s not a sit-down restaurant but not quite a fast-casual restaurant, more like a half step up from true fast food joints like McDonald’s, In-N-Out, and Burger King. The quality is better than traditional fast food, so my expectations are a little higher.

The Food:
I’ve been to numerous Habits before, but this review will focus on what I ordered last: charburger combo meal (hamburger, fries, and a fountain drink). The charburger was bigger than an In-N-Out burger, juicer than a McDonald’s burger, and far more flavorful than a Whopper. While I prefer the sauce from In-N-Out, the Habit bun is bigger and holds its shape better, so I’m not left with a wet mess at the end.

The Habit fries are solid, but not as good as Mickey D’s. And for the fountain drink, the Habit only has Pepsi products (I’m a Coke guy) so I chose Dr. Pepper, which is a good secondary option.

My wife ordered the new cauliflower tots, which was breaded and fried like a regular tater tot but filled with cauliflower and cheese instead of potatoes. Let’s just say we won’t be ordering that item again.

The Location:
This store is located in the same shopping complex as Chipotle and Tilly’s. Nearby parking can get filled up at peak hours but there are a lot of slots so you can always find a spot that’s further away and walk a few extra yards. There’s a good number of tables and chairs both inside and outside. The layout is well organized. The tables and seats could be wiped down more often, though.

The Service:
Like most fast food places these days, customer service can be hit and miss — i.e. an order missing an item and whatnot. But on the whole, the staff is friendly and competent.

The Prices:
This is why I’m not giving them a perfect score. It’s crazy in this down economy that we have to pay $7 to $11 for a single burger or $15 to $19 for a combo meal. If they want more repeat business, they need to bring the levels back down to affordable levels. I mean, this is fast food we’re talking about here after all.

The Conclusion:
The Habit is my go-to spot when I want a high quality burger without having to go to an expensive sit-down restaurant. Sure, the prices are a bit steep for fast food and the customer service could be improved, but overall the Habit always delivers the foods.

The fries kinda sucked this trip, a 7 minute drive to home and they were soggy by the time we got there. This isn’t our usual experience from this location. It was after 8pm and not crowded, maybe they were old to start with.

We had a party of 13 and the server arranged tables and umbrellas on the patio so we wouldn’t have to sit in the sun. The restaurant was clean; the staff was friendly. There were a few mistakes with our order, but were quickly corrected. The food was delicious! The restrooms are non-gender. Parking is free. The restaurant is clearly visible from the street.

Overpriced mid burgers. In n out is way better especially for the price and flavor.
Fries are $5 with ranch and are super basic .
They do not have thousand island sauce for burgers or side

This location used to be very nice and clean. Lately it has been looking unkept and not clean. Liquid spilled on the floor, paper and fries on the floor, the area where the peppers are was dirty, even the glass protecting the peppers was dirty.
The bathroom was out of toilet paper and paper was all over the floor. Sad to see it so rundown looking!

the young man that worked Monday August 25th at 4:30, was beyond rude. I walked up to get my order as he was on his phone, saw me and proceeded to sigh and put his phone down. Walks over, takes my order super fast and walks away immediately once it was time to pay to go back on his phone. My dude, your relationship problems will be there when your off shift. Don’t be rude to your customers…

It is disappointing when a business fails to adhere to its posted operating hours. I arrived 10 minutes before closing, only to find the doors already locked. When I signaled to an employee to ask if they were still serving, the response was completely unprofessional; she simply laughed and turned away. Management should seriously review their staff’s approach to customer service and schedule adherence.

No complaints about the food really. Burger is great. Fries are alright. Tempura green beans are amazing. But just a few complaints.

Self order screen is terrible. The option boxes are so tiny, you can’t read most of the item names. What’s “Kids Trop …” supposed to mean? In the one hour that I spent in the restaurant, not one person successfully used the self order screen to order. Many tried, then moved on to order in person.

Fountain drinks are not calibrated correctly. Syrup to carbonated water ratio was off. On almost all of the drinks, not enough syrup. No, they weren’t low on syrup. Just the calibration was off.

65 cents for ranch dressing?? They gave me too little ranch for the green beans so I asked for another cup (one of those teeny tiny cups), and it was 65 cents. I said forget it. Just took like 50 napkins I got so mad.

I was gonna leave just 3 stars, but one of the employees was so nice so bumped up to 4 stars.

Sometimes it can be really busy and difficult to get a table. This is for good reason though. The charburgers are delicious, wouldn’t recommend the tenders/nuggets. Only bad experiences at the other habit location. Portabella Char was good, I miss it. Haven’t tried the Chicken Club but it definitely looks fresh and tasty. This place is a great choice, highly recommend if you want a hefty burger. Lots of seating outdoors too by the way.
