And not only you. It’s a collective act that I have experienced while dinning this evening at Gwen.
I made a terrific choice with this place as they’ve put care and fantastic flavours in all the courses. Alongside a glass of Barbaresco and the flat iron with mouth-melting texture, this evening was delicious beginning to the end.
Chose the Piemonte region after a wine tasting with Country 🙂 hoping that my next time here there will be white truffles season for the menu 🙂
My most fav was the chicken consommée with shiitake and chives though 🙂 DELICIOUS! But all the appetizers were amazing. On the house also 🙂
And… the knives selection!! Absolute WOW! I picked Nashville Tennessee origins Damascus steel. Gorgeous and sharp 🙂
Don’t remember the dessert details but it was delicious and had some cinnamon with it. Hopefully the restaurant will describe it again for us 🙂
Amazing treatment by Audrey, who carried me through my evening at Gwen, taking the time to explain the dishes and helping me decide. The entire staff was very friendly. Thanks for the wonderful evening!
The water menu was cute and the steak was absolutely on point!
The food we did have was good, but I’d recommend sticking with the main menu items rather than the higher priced aged steaks. In our experience, the value of the aged steaks did not justify the premium price tag, though that is just our personal opinion.
Wine list is deep and thorough, and well priced. The steaks are sublime. The beet salad was incredible as were the duck fat potatoes.
Highly recommend an evening here, look forward to returning soon. It’s quite romantic and has a lovely European feel.
Great atmosphere, but not a Michelin-starred restaurant that we’d revisit.
We were greeted right away, and the host was polite, but I’ve never been to a high-end restaurant where the host didn’t pull out the chair for guests. I know it’s not required, and it’s not a big deal, but it felt a little out of place for this kind of setting.
The server made it known that they take all orders at once (rather than appetizers first), which was fine. They also wait to bring out the bread and butter until the warm dishes arrive — I’m guessing because they know it’s a favorite and don’t want people asking for refills.
We ordered all these dishes for two and couldn’t finish the pasta:
10/10: Bread & butter
1/10: Oysters on half shell
3.5/10: Hiramasa crudo
3.5/10: Crab dip
3.5/10: White fish w/ thai broth + ginger salad
5/10: Flat iron steak
4/10: Gnocci bolognese
5/10: Duck fat potatoes
10/10: Chocolate mousse dessert
We started with the oysters, which you can order individually, but they were our least favorite. They didn’t taste fresh and had that overly “ocean-y” flavor. The hiramasa crudo started off great — light and refreshing — but the last bite didn’t taste right (not fresh). Some steak restaurants have good seafood, but we quickly realized that this was not one of them.
The flat iron steak, served medium rare, came out closer to rare. We didn’t mind, but that could easily bother other guests. Steak was okay — not bad, not amazing, but I’d go elsewhere for a better overall experience. If we returned, the only thing we’d reorder would be the chocolate mousse (only thing that stood out besides the bread/butter).
I did think the water menu was a nice, unique touch.
Our server was kind but inattentive. She never checked on us during the meal, and we had to wave her down every time we needed something. It’s an open restaurant, so it’s not hard to notice her standing at the front or kitchen against the wall – talking to her co-workers for extended periods. Once or twice would be fine, but it happened repeatedly throughout our visit – enough to be worth mentioning.
