⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Rave Review for Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in Austin, TX! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From the very first bite, this place totally earns its world-famous reputation. The moment that perfectly seasoned, golden-crispy skin yields to unbelievably juicy, tender chicken — you’ll find yourself licking the plate clean and reaching for just one more piece. The spice blend hits with a gentle kick that’s bold without overpowering, and every piece feels cooked to absolute perfection.

The sides here deserve just as much praise: rich, creamy mac & cheese, crisp fried okra, and seasoned fries that are just as addictive as the chicken itself. Add in refreshing sweet tea and friendly, quick service, and this spot isn’t just a meal — it’s an experience worth returning for again and again.

Whether you’re grabbing a classic plate after exploring downtown or treating friends to what might just be the best fried chicken in Austin, every visit feels like comfort food perfection. If you love fried chicken that makes you smack your lips and savor every last crumb — this is the place to go

We were in Austin for the weekend and stopped by after visiting a Christmas bar, looking for some good food. It was my fiancé’s first time here, though I’ve visited before, and this visit definitely didn’t disappoint. We ordered the special—two thighs, two legs, and two sides for $16—and everything came out fresh, hot, and perfectly fried. The chicken was incredibly flavorful and impressed my fiancé, which is not an easy thing to do when it comes to food! The sides were good as well, but the chicken was definitely the star of the meal.

We were seated quickly at the counter as soon as we walked in, which I appreciated. The only downside was that the temperature in the restaurant felt pretty warm, possibly because we were seated close to the kitchen. Still, the laid-back, casual ambiance and the friendly, welcoming staff made the experience enjoyable.

Overall, we’d absolutely come back—especially for that amazing chicken.

This spot absolutely hit the mark for us. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, quick, and welcoming. We were greeted right away, seated immediately, and couldn’t believe how fast the food arrived—less than ten minutes after ordering. The sweet tea was incredible, honestly one of the best I’ve had. The chicken was fried perfectly with great flavor and crunch, and the fries were just as tasty. Everything came out hot, fresh, and satisfying. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we left feeling completely impressed.

I am visiting from Houston, and am originally from Tennessee. This location had great food, all except Mac and Cheese. It tasted like Kraft Mac and Cheese. Other than that disappointment, everything else was very good. If you have not been to Tennessee for the real Gus’s I would definitely try it there, or in Houston as they are better than this location overall.

Chicken was cooked perfectly and was deliciously crispy. They also have a great selection of sides. The staff were very friendly and gave excellent recommendations.

The chocolate chess pie was also a great dessert. I liked that the cups were souvenirs, as well.

After a long, exhausting travel day dealing with lost luggage, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in downtown Austin was the perfect refuge.
Atmosphere: The spot is a classic “no-frills” establishment—low-key, casual, and focused entirely on the food.
Service: The bartender was incredibly friendly and helpful, providing great service that made a rough day much better.
Food: The Chicken Tenders were truly “out of this world”—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection.
If you’re hungry and need a reliable, high-quality meal in a relaxed setting, this is a must-visit in Austin.

Food was absolutely fantastic. Chicken had a bit of a zip to it which made it delicious. Potato salad was spot on great, Mac and cheese was cooked to perfection and the fried okra was finger licking good. Only bad part was the horrific parking. The city of Austin wanted to charge $23 to park for 2 hours in an open dirt lot.

Went in on a Wednesday afternoon and wasn’t too busy. Seated at the bar, order taken quickly and food came out not too long after. Fried chicken was warm and crispy with great breading flavor. Baked beans were good and got a side of Mac n cheese which was also good.

Chicken was very tender, very juicy and very very good. It was a bit smaller than what I thought it would be. But they do say all natural chicken.
Now there is a kick. Obviously because it is hot and spicy fried Chicken. I think the only problem was when you finish all the chickens. The okra seems a little bland also the coleslaw.

The store itself is very eclectic. The shop felt like a really old school ice cream pop kind of feel.

Draper welcomed me to my first visit to Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken.
I sat up front and had a personal service experience. He offered suggested menu options that were spot on. The spicy chicken was sharp, but not overbearing. The pecan pie and ice cream topped the evening meal off. Thanks Draper!
