Positive Vibes
Positive Vibes! Gullah and Grooves was a breathtaking experience. The ambiance ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Customer Service 10/10 Autumn was warm and welcoming. Food was hot and fresh! The fried oysters are my favorite. The crab cake sauce was Very clean establishment. Hopefully, I will catch the live band next time Reservations are highly recommended for a table. No reservations can be seated at the bar. I’m a shortie. I definitely needed a higher bar stool. It felt awkward eating my food at the bar. That doesn’t deter me from coming back. It’s BEAUTIFUL ❤️

I seen this spot on FB by some family members who had posted that they had a great time. When I came in town, it was the first eating establishment I visited. I went for brunch and It did not disappoint! The ambiance extremely nice and the food was pretty good. They have live music on Friday and Saturdays. Unfortunately I couldn’t get in when I returned that night. My only complaint is that the spot needs to be larger, especially when having live entertainment. Charleston needs more black owned classy establishments such as this for the more mature and seasoned crowd. I will definitely be returning on my trips back to the city I love. Home!

Great and very welcoming atmosphere. The food was tasty. Here are my ratings on the dishes ordered based upon a scale of 0 (do not recommend) -10 (highly recommended): fried fish- (10/10)extremely flavorful and fried to perfection; gullah rice (7/10)-tasty but lacked intense flavor; waffles (10/10); fried chicken wings- (4/10) fried perfectly but no seasoning was added at all; virgin strawberry daiquiri- 10/10. No appetizers were available. Overall, it was a good experience and I will definitely check them out again!

Tell’em I (#StopJLyn) sent ya! Grown and Groovy: Gullah and Grooves Delivers Soul, Spice, and Sophistication If you are looking for the perfect evening escape—a place where refined ambiance meets deep, soulful flavors—look no further than Gullah and Grooves in North Charleston, South Carolina. This is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience tailor-made for singles, couples or a group seeking an elevated, “grown and sexy” date night or amazing food.

The Scene: Upscale and Effortlessly Cool from the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere was a masterclass in sophisticated evening dining. The lighting was moody and flattering, the decor was stylishly upscale, and the energy was vibrant without being overwhelming. The environment exudes a “grown and sexy” vibe, making it an ideal destination for my husband and I to spend a truly memorable evening. Adding to the electrifying mood was the live reggae band. They were all the way live, providing a vibrant, infectious soundtrack that compelled you to sway in your seat. The music perfectly complimented the setting, lifting the entire dining experience. A clear sign of the establishment’s dedication to excellence was the presence of the owners, who were on site, greeting guests and ensuring everything ran flawlessly, demonstrating an amazing commitment to hospitality.

The Feast: Iconic Gullah Rice and Southern Perfection! The culinary experience at Gullah and Grooves is rooted in tradition but executed with finesse.

The service was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. For our dinner, we indulged in a quintessential Southern spread. The fried fish was perfectly crisp and flaky, seasoned beautifully, and the whole fried chicken wings boasted a golden, crunchy exterior that gave way to juicy, tender meat. Paired with perfectly tender collard greens, every bite felt authentic and comforting.

However, the undeniable star of the plate was their iconic Gullah Rice. This dish is a culinary triumph—a rich, flavorful, and savory rendition that honors its heritage while standing proudly as a signature creation. It is a must-try item that perfectly encapsulates the heart of the restaurant’s name.

Gullah and Grooves is more than a dinner destination; it is a North Charleston jewel that expertly blends amazing service, delicious heritage cuisine, and an atmosphere that guarantees a wonderful, grown-up evening out. They have a patio too – I will have to check it out on my next visit.

We left feeling nourished, entertained, and already planning our return.

The food was cold and nothing came out at the same time. They didn’t have pasta or shrimp and grits. I would not eat there again

The fish was cold. They replaced it quickly. Three of us ordered the fish and rice. We received different size fish. The rice had different amounts of meats in it. The plates going to the same table should be more consistent giving us the same experience. Our waitress was pretty good. I love the ambiance. The band was really great.

Visiting the family for the holidays and was tired of the leftovers lol . So me and the wife decided to search for a black owned brunch spot in the 843! Epic fail until my aunt told me about Gullah Grooves the new spot near the mall. Had to send a text to a random number I found on their FB page to book a res. Which wasn’t ideal but it’s a new restaurant, so I’ll let them live lol.

Showed up in 30 and greeted by the light brown skin hostess sorry forgot your name lol but very nice and was assisting her peers to bring food out which you never see!!! Salute to you!

Our waitress JORDAN showed up and was off the back helpful and gave us time to order drinks first. I ordered an Old Fashioned and the wife ordered Lemon Drop Martini. I went in doubting the bartender but it came out with perfection!!! To the point I ordered a second one!

Jordan then took our food order which consisted of Gullah Fried Rice and Fish and Shrimp & Grits. I was hesitant of the fried rice because it had sautéed okra in it!!! Not my thing but Jordan assured me it was really good and not slimy lol which I hate!

We waited maybe 20 minute while in between Jordan made sure to check on us while the Afrobeats played through the air! Nice job!

Food arrived and first bite – CHEFS KISS!!! Enjoyed the entire experience and the ambiance reminded us the popular black owned restaurants in other major cities! Without the ratchetness! Respectfully! lol And forgot they have almost have an entire black female staff!!! Black Girls Rock!!! Well done Gullah & Grooves!! To show the world we can compete with all other cuisines! NOLA better watch out 😀 Next time we are in town we will def step by again to checkout the dinner menu!!! Thank you and good luck to your new establishment!
