It time to throw away that mop head or bar towel used to clean tables. Then start cleaning the mop head in Clorox after each use…and let it dry completely
Groucho’s Deli is a @statesvillenorthcarolina staple and guaranteed to always satisfy (especially when paired with the formula 45 sauce)
Food:
I got a Reuben variation – a turkey Reuben; otherwise known as a Rachel.
Rye bread was nicely toasted but not to the point of being crunchy to where it cuts up your mouth.
Warm, melty, Swiss cheese. Sauerkraut and brown mustard brought some intensity with the flavor which I liked. Add some of the famous 45 sauce and the sweetness cuts the tang extremely well. Delicious.
I asked for double meat, by the way – I like my sandwiches on the more “full” side but you do you.
Service:
Classic seat yourself, order, and then it’s brought out. Nothing over the top. Just a nice deli. Not a ton of server interaction besides ordering and refills.
Ambiance:
Lowkey sandwich shop – not much more to say. You’ll see regulars snagging a quick bite on their lunch break or those passing through statesville who know a good sandwich! Perfect for a sunny day and enjoy the downtown or a rainy day pick me up (like mine was).
Location:
Located right on the corner of downtown statesville. Iconic, I guess you could say, for the downtown. Easy parking on the street or a short walk from Pecan Park.
Rating:
9/10
Solid. Won’t disappoint. Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for a good sandwich or salad in downtown statesville!
And I didn’t like none of it. I got the pasta feta salad. The pasta was extremely sweet, the salad had cooked squash, broccoli, and celery, big slices of uncooked sliced carrots. The bread
is tough , not regular sub bread holdings all the toppings together. And all toppings were cut in chunks, every bite causing toppings to fall off. The review is for taste and quality of food. The good things I can say the food arrived timely. Oh yeah, I did like the 45 sauce.
Groucho’s Deli is definitely the place to go for a great sandwich. I am a Ruban fan, and their Ruben was probably one of the tastiest Ruben sandwiches I have eaten. They have their own sause that they make in-house that is just amazing. One of them is like a thousand island dressing but much better, and my husband had their blue cheese sause, which was amazing.
When you enter the restaurant you can choose to sit yourself. Menu’s are at the table. They do have servers here, which is nice. They do charge for water $0.25. Which isn’t bad. The waitress was great, and the food came out quickly. Everyone absolutely enjoyed their sandwiches. The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. There are lots of old pictures and memorabilia on the walls to look at. We love going to places like this with so much history. It’s definitely worth a stop. You do have to take your bill up to the register when you are done with your meal. Just in case you didn’t hear the waitress tell you that when they drop it off. As I was waiting for the waitress to come back and my husband had told me.
If you are in Statesville in the downtown area, I would definitely put this place on your places to go eat. And afterward you can take a nice walk around the downtown area. It’s beautiful with so much history.
Now what i oredered was 9.25 on the menu i removed the lettuce and tomato and added 1 slice of american cheese and was now charged 11 something for it.
The chicken sandwhich had amazing taste BUT IT WAS FUN SIZED!!! 11 DOLLARS for the tinest piece of meat on a bun i have ever seen.. my wifes turkey sandwhich was the same… no meat and for what they charge is bullshit.
Waitress never asked for refills, just through the check down and left. I paid from the qr code on the receipt and left hungry and aggitated. I see no reason to return. If i want to be hungry i will just not eat and save the money.
Enjoy the STP DIPPER and hot dog.
When in Statesville, give Grocho’s a visit.
