Drunken noodle and shrimp wanton with spicy peanut sauce but winner is the tofu!!!
We ordered Homemade Crispy Tofu to start, Malaysian Curry (mild curry with your choice of protein, veggies and coconut milk), and Pad Thai. Everything was delicious and recommendable.
The service was quick and friendly. The dining area is comfortable and with homey decor. Some might think that the tables are a bit too close. However, personally, I felt ok.
I’ve been here many times and have never been disappointed. Don’t hesitate to come by Green Papaya for a change of pace!
-Crispy tofu – a little dry. I also didn’t care for the sauce it came with. It was too sweet
-Pad Thai – looked different from when we dined in. It was lighter in color for takeout. Also, the noodles were in pieces
-Pad Kee Mao – this was pretty good. It wasn’t overly spicy and the noodles held up
-Pad See Ew – this was probably the worst pad see ew I’ve ever tasted. It was WAY too salty and sweet to the point where my mouth felt numb after eating it.
I would highly recommend dining in, which stinks because I love getting takeout. But this just isn’t one of the places to do it at.
*UPDATED FEB 2025*
Came in for dinner on a rainy Friday just before 6, and it wasn’t too crowded – but it seemed like a lot of people were coming in to pick up some takeout. I had the Pad Thai with beef and hubby had the Massaman curry with beef. Pad Thais are usually a hit or miss but this one was a hit! The flavor was perfectly balanced – not too sweet, salty, or sour. Plus, the portions are HUGE! We both ate a good amount of it and had leftovers for a small meal the next day. The Massaman curry on the other hand was a miss, unfortunately. I don’t know if it traditionally has peanuts in it, but it was a little weird. It was also more like a broth, then it was a curry. It was very soupy.
I don’t know about the curries here but it seems like they do noodles pretty well, so I definitely will be back for some more of that!
Highly recommend getting the fried tofu appetizer and the Malaysian curry noodle soup! Great portion for the price.
Today I tried the lunch menu which was terrific, everything was quite good. Staff is attentive and will be quick to refill your cup of jasmine tea which is quite nice.
It’s a bustling restaurant, nothing fancy about the place but nothing that distracts from the experience except that sometimes it can be busy.
We typically go as a party of 5-7 and never had any issues being seated.
The appetizers are very tasty, crispy tofu, calamari or roti with dipping sauce. We usually get a couple of each and they are delicious.
The main menu is also quite diverse. You can pick from a range of different curry’s and pair it with chicken, shrimp, beef, veggies etc., Along with other Thai specialties. They also have vegetarian chicken. I had this last time I visited and it was quite good.
I visited Green Papaya ‘post Covid’. I think things are a bit different but not unlike other restaurants I have visited. Portions seem a touch smaller, staff wears masks, and maybe a bit different due to some Covid changes like sanitizers etc.
But flavor is still the same terrific flavors. I definitely recommend Been Papaya a d believe they will be back to full stride, along with other restaurants so wort a try.
Good portions at very reasonable prices. Plenty of chicken in each dish as well. A choice of brown or white rice.
The only bad dish was the calamari appetizer. It felt like chewing on rubber. Skip it.
