P.S. don’t skip the cookies on your way out! The Raspberry White Chocolate cookie was one of the best cookies I’ve had!
I love everything about Green Hill Diner. The atmosphere (especially the wonderful smell) makes me feel like I’m back at my great aunts house in the country and she’s cooking me breakfast.
Service is also exceptional, quick and so friendly.
Usually I’d get something more traditionally diner, but I got the catfish gumbo today and it was the best gumbo I’ve ever had. Flavors were balanced, not too spicy, and the popcorn shrimp was crunchy and tender.
Nothing more I can say except whatever you order you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you for being a staple to our little Morgantown.
I found the menu quite interesting. The traditional diner staples were present, but the descriptions revealed slightly elevated fare. Their beef is sourced from Blackwell Cattle Co in Trafalgar— which I know and love. Their fries are hand-cut and prepared in beef tallow. It was clearly a thoughtful menu.
After some back-and-forth we placed our order:
Hot Honey Fried Chicken Grilled Cheese & Fries
Popper Burger & Fries
Hoosier Poutine
Cheeseburger & Fries
Beef Manhattan
Right out of the gate— the fries were awesome. Hot, crispy, salty and delicious— I could’ve eaten an entire bag of them.
Though I had pictured in my mind something more akin to traditional grilled cheese, the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Grilled Cheese was actually a chicken sandwich. The fried chicken breast was quite crunchy and I liked the brioche toast. The addition of hot honey gave it a chicken & waffles vibe.
My son said his Popper Burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned. He liked the contrast of the spicy jelly and cooling cream cheese. I snagged his last bite and had to agree.
My two forkfuls of the Hoosier Poutine were enough to determine it was a candidate for a return visit. But what’s not to like about beef, gravy, and cheese curds on a bed of hand-cut fries?
I came away with only two minor critiques. Upon first impression I thought the meat-to-bun ratio was a bit off on the burgers, making the patties appear undersized (they weren’t). I also felt my chicken sandwich could’ve benefited from an additional layer of flavor— like pickles or slaw.
Be aware that elevated comfort food comes with elevated prices. I felt the prices were reasonable— just don’t expect typical greasy spoon rates. I liked that fountain drinks were less than $3.
Being a small business they do pass a 3.5% merchant processing fee on to customers using a credit or debit card. Thankfully it is clearly posted in the menu and at the register. Bring cash and skip the fee.
Rounding out our meal we learned that they also offered a selection of pies and baked goods. We were sure to get some to-go.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the time we got to spend together.
Beer-battered fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and a chili sauce were also incredible.
Service was top notch. Sometimes it can be a little intimidating to go into a small-town diner filled with locals, but their staff made us feel right at home. They were friendly and fast. An all-around amazing experience. Definitely worth our drive.
A must-visit for anyone who enjoys great food.
