If you’re even thinking about ordering the Meat Lover’s Skillet (eggs over easy) at Greek Islands in Birmingham — stop thinking and just do it.
This dish is an absolute masterpiece. Perfectly cooked eggs over easy, with those golden yolks just waiting to break and cascade over a hearty bed of crispy hash browns and savory, beautifully browned meats. Every bite delivers that perfect balance of richness, salt, and texture — crispy edges, tender chunks of meat, and that creamy yolk tying it all together. It’s the kind of breakfast that feels both indulgent and expertly crafted.
The portion is generous, the presentation is rustic and inviting, and the flavor? Unmatched. It’s comfort food elevated — satisfying without being greasy, bold without being overwhelming.
Greek Islands absolutely nailed it with this skillet. Five stars isn’t enough. I’ll be back for this again — and soon.

We were in town for a few days and ran across this place. Everything was great. We ordered hummus, and not realizing how large it was we ordered the chicken strawberry salad and a gyro platter. We had way too much food, but it was all delicious. The hostess was nice, as was our server, Michaela. We would certainly go back the next time we are in town.

I had a fantastic lunch at Greek Island. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly clean and well-maintained the restaurant is, which immediately made for a great atmosphere. The vibe is welcoming and comfortable.
A huge shoutout to the lunch staff. They were attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly even during the busy rush. It’s rare to find such a great combination of quality service and a spotless environment. I enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back soon

We have eaten here at least three times a week for the last 30 years! The food is always consistently fresh and high quality with consistently fair portions and consistently clean!! The staff is excellent at remembering your name and they treat you like family. I can’t say that about any other restaurant. Greek Islands Birmingham, thank you for being our kitchen away from home!

I’ve been coming here for thirty years, and the trend could not be more clear – higher prices, lower quality food. I still love the service and the overall vibe and I want to like it so much…. But the high rating blows my mind. Maybe the average is carried by the good reviews from many years ago.

I knew dinner quality had tanked, but decided to try breakfast. I imagine a microwaved omelet from a gas station would be better than what I was served. Prison food tier.

An omelet should be stuffed, that’s the whole point. That’s why it’s folded. This was a tiny bit of feta and a few pieces of gyro meat mixed with eggs, cooked until way overdone and dry, then simply folded over to mimic the idea that it was holding the toppings. Honestly the worst omelet I’ve ever had.

If it were $4 I would consider it a ripoff. But it was $16! Paired with toast, which is hard to screw up, and sub par hash browns. Then add $6 for four mediocre sausage links.

There may be good things on the menu, but the omelet was trash, as is everything else I’ve had here. Makes me sad after loving this place for so many years. Something is changing, and it’s not good.

And all this was at 11am on a Sunday, when breakfast places usually have a line…. But it was pretty dead and it became immediately apparent why.

20.+ your customer worst customer service today plus a 12.5% carry out charge for orders over 50 Dollars but they don’t tell you that When you place the order. When I said something, I was told they have customers that come there multiple times a day and don’t care about that I asked her to please pass that on to the owner and she said no one else has complained and I said that I will not be returning and she said OK very disappointed. Sorry to see another Birmingham restaurant go down with poor service and extra charges.

With almost 3 decades established in the heart of Birmingham, John one of the owners has seen all the celebrities come through.
His traditional greek flare to his food makes it a come and grab or relax and dine type of place. My favs are the veggie omelette with goat cheese and the spinach pie dinner.

Prices are inexpensive, dishes are simple and the food quality is always consistently good. This is a place I always come to when
I am in Birmingham photographing attorneys and investment advisors.

I had this opportunity to photograph some of his dishes for Doordash and it’s so nice to hear that he still has pride serving up these dishes after almost 30 years! I highly recommend.

Greek Islands is the best! My favorite casual restaurant in Birmingham. I frequently get the Beef Philly Pita or the Greek Islands Special Salad. Both are so good!

The staff was kind and attentive, and the service was fast. While the food and atmosphere weren’t exactly my style, I can see the effort they put into their work.
