I ordered the beef lo mein, the eggrolls and sweet and sour chicken. The eggrolls and lo mein were really good and we were happy with them , but the sweet and sour sauce really lacked flavor… the chicken itself was light and crispy and had good flavor, but the sauce on the side was basically red colored water – it added no value to the chicken , was neither sweet or sour… just tasted like nothing… Other than that one menu item, i would come back and recommend this place.

I ordered 3 lunch specials here. I came to pick them up, and the young guy at the counter had the personality of an annoyed kid who was home from college and didn’t want to be having to work in his parents’ restaurant. He seemed VERY ‘put out’ by just collecting my money! But THAT isn’t even the reason for my review… I would have just blown that off… The reason for my review is that I ordered chicken lo mein, and there was NO CHICKEN in it! None! But what WAS in it were – as my photos show – just a bunch of chicken SKINS!! Disgusting. So I’m guessing that I was being served the BYPRODUCT of something else on the menu and not what I paid for! WHO does that??
I don’t normally post smack about anybody’s business, but THAT was beyond the pale!
And to boot, the other 2 people in the order didn’t like their food, either.

Best place to get food always fast and very tasty. All the staff is very nice. Yes they are busy So don’t expect a full conversation but there food speaks volumes. They let the food do all the talking I 100% recommend best place in Elgin hands down

I like to come here for the crab Ragoons and the lo mein. But the service from the younger guy who looks like he is in college sucks. Very rude and says little to nothing when he picks up the phone. I got there to pick up my order the other day and he threw my card on the table and said “sign” after he took it out of the terminal. He either needs to go because he has a bad rep for y’all, or he needs to change his attitude.

Update: Hate to do this because they are so nice. But the owners are gone, the cooks are the same BUT they are definately using cheaper ingredients because it’s just not the same anymore.
Old: My go to for years. Good food and super friendly service. The chicken teriyaki sticks are always yummy, crab rangoon, kung pao is so good but needs to be spicier and sweet & sour chicken is always great. There is just too much to list that is good here.

Wanton soup ,Happy Family dinner, Fried rice and that thin noodles…all the same with a lot of teriyaki sauce.
I am so sorry. Will never return to Great Wall Chinese restaurant.

We read the reviews before going and made sure we had cash, lol. The food was made to order quickly. We got it home and it was still too hot to eat right away. Everything had great flavor, the fried dumplings are absolutely perfect. I definitely recommend this place for take home Chinese. The Dragon and Phoenix was perfectly cooked and served side by side. Hot and Sour soup was spicy, but needed a little vinegar to get to my desired sour. Full of veggies and flavor, came with some crispy wontons . We also ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork. Came with sauce on the side, as it should be, and was crispy and perfectly cooked. What a great meal.

It’s the last time I would ever order something from this place. The crab meat Rangoon smelled and tasted rancid. The fried dumplings were half cooked, tasteless, greasy, and slimy. It’s the first time I have thrown away food at the first bite. I should’ve guessed the quality of the food was going to be as bad as the service since I got my card thrown across the counter rather than being handed it back to me. No thanks!
