Update: Their Mac and cheese has become one of my absolute favorites.
The chicken tasted great but missing the skin!
I love the owner and attitude! This place has great potential!
The hamburger was mto and good!
I think this is a great place
The sides are good but needed some more seasoning!
The place is a combo of butcher shop and a deli!
Please try this place but not for the bbq ! I know they are on the right path but it will take more time!
I love their energy!
The steak sandwich uses a half pound of sliced beef the owner said. I dont know about the exact weight but there was a lot of meat on there, and with the Texas style bread, it was even a little hard to get my mouth around at first. The beef had real, solid beef flavor and everything was seasoned well. I opted for the jalapenos instead of green peppers. They were pickled and rounded out the sandwich perfectly.
Only knocks on the sandwich for us was the bread was not toasted and breaks down as you eat, you know, your fingers start to collapse the bread. We like a little mayo on a steak sandwich but didn’t think to ask for it bieng the our first time. I know a lot of steak sandwiches dont have mayo as part of the plan though. Also, they put the sandwich (if you are just ordering the sandwich and no sides) in a clam-shell container that fits the sandwich exactly, so its a bit hard to get started on it! All that said, I 100% recommend the steak sandwich. A far better steak sandwich in my opinion than what you get, for $1 more, at the place on Rt15 that boasts “a proper Philly” 10 miles up the road.
This IS a small carryout place. If you hit it when its busy, you are going to be standing shoulder to shoulder with other patrons. There is a 2 seater chair that seems to me would get wet when it rains and a small table that could seat maybe 4 on the front porch but otherwise no seating. There is a picnic shelter very close but we didn’t feel we had the right to use it because it belongs to the church. My guess is they would prefer you not. I didn’t ask if it was OK when we ordered. But, 2 miles southeast there is Pleasant Grove park where there is plenty of space to picnic and there is a picnic shelter there.
They dont have a carryout menu or a menu online except for the pictures of the menu on the wall. I definitely want to try some “Q” here but they just had a smoker fire and didn’t have any at the time. The fried chicken looked great, I want to try that too. They are working on a food truck too.
First time stopping in & when I tell you ive yet to find greens as vinegary and peppery as theirs! SO dang good, I will be back asap!
Brisket was so tender and flavorful throughout, didn’t even need sauce.
Amazing service both people were super friendly. Thanks yall!
So if your lookin for some rockin and slamin and windbreakin chili , you should quickly head to this place in Palmyra, VA. Just don’t keep it at pup level (if you have a dog) once brining home because you sure would not want to be on the receiving end of that! LOL.
The only thing, perhaps a little less firm potatoes, however, still slamming delicious! Also served with home made corn bread too! All very yummy!
