We had a very pleasant dining experience here for our party of eight. They are not joking when they said that reservations are recommended for dinner. If you didn’t have a reservation, you could be waiting two hours or more for even a small party for dinner. So do yourself a favor, and make advance reservations.
We were very pleasantly surprised as to the quality of the food and the presentation here. It was first class!
The fried calamari was crispy, and the remoulade dip was delicious. The only downside to the calamari was that it was strips, not rings/tentacles.
The smoked trout dip was great, loved the onions and capers.
My Skuna Bay salmon was great, loved the kimchi cucumber on it.
My companions’ chicken curry and jerked tofu were equally good. The gumbo was notably delicious. The trout, ordered by our member who had gluten issues, was done perfectly.
We had the olive oil cake (absolutely delicious lemon flavor and great texture), volcano caldera cake (yummy) and ice cream (big scoops!).
The food was delicious, and the servers were super friendly. I enjoyed my meal but the prices were a little high also. I understand that this is a restaurant in Yellowstone Park and travelers who are driving for hours don’t have many options, and this restaurant felt a little upper class to me, so I didn’t mind. $15 for a glass of wine and $24 for burger and fries for a total of $50 with tip for one person. Overall everything was good. The glasses were a little dirty.
Prices seemed very high in the various lodges & certainly in the hotel too. We ended up at the lodge in Grant Village, & it was all very pleasant! We loved the quiet, the walkability, the lake shore being right there, & of course the proximity to Old Faithful & many other geyser areas.
I want to mention some friendly & helpful staff who added to the experience:
Alex from CO; Hazel from VT; Amelia from Miss; Eya from Philippines; Ollie from PA & Eliana from OH.
There were other great young folks, in the lodge & visitor reception, but I didn’t catch their names.
A wonderful memory already.
The good:
The fresh berries were outstanding and our server was very friendly. The other food was decent but nothing notable.
The bad:
Our server Gabriel was very friendly but also very inattentive. After asking if we wanted coffee he took off without giving us a chance to order the other drinks like milk and juice that were supposed to come with the buffet. He never came back to refill anything and we couldn’t seem to get his attention. The table was never cleared of dishes. When we returned to the buffet many items were empty. They did not have the biscuits and gravy as described on the menu. Three of the four coffee cups on our table were dirty and one had lipstick stains. We waited 10+ minutes after we were done to see him and get our check. All in all, it was disappointing and definitely not worth the price.
